Carlos Alcaraz has won the Monte Carlo Masters final after beating a struggling Lorenzo Musetti in the final.

Alcaraz was feeling physically great heading into the final, something that he admitted himself after beating Alejandro Davidovich Fokina.

While his opponent had spent nearly four hours more on court heading into the final, with Musetti’s win over Alex De Minaur one of four comeback victories for the Italian.

Carlos Alcaraz sends message to Lorenzo Musetti after beating him in the Monte Carlo Masters final

Alcaraz beat Musetti, 3-6 6-1 6-0, to win the biggest title of his 2025 season so far, but the match finished on a sour note with his opponent was clearly not feeling good physically.

Musetti was hardly moving after taking a medical timeout in the third set, where he received treatment on his right leg.

The Italian only won eight points in the deciding set, with Alcaraz admitting that this is not how he wanted to win the Monte Carlo Masters title in his on-court interview.

Alcaraz sent Musetti his well wishes, and expressed his hope that the injury concern was not serious.

“Well first of all this is not the way that I would have wanted to win a match,” said Alcaraz. “You know I’m thinking about Lorenzo, he’s been through a really tough week, pretty long and intense matches.

“So I feel sorry for him to end one of the best results he has done so far to end up like this, it’s not easy so just wanted to say hopefully it’s nothing serious and hopefully he’s going to be 100% really soon.”

Lorenzo Musetti admits disappointment after Monte Carlo Masters final

This was the first ATP Masters 1000 final of Musetti’s career, who will rise to a career-high ranking of world number 11 on Monday.

In the on-court ceremony after the match, Musetti admitted his disappointment at how the final had ended, but was also very complimentary towards Alcaraz.

“Of course I want to thank Carlos for sharing the court, it’s always a pleasure for me, always a lesson I would say,” said Musetti.

“Really of course disappointed that I could not finish the match in the best way for the crowd, for all the support that I received this week, but you deserve it, so keeping going. I will try to comeback for the revenge (laughs).”

Musetti is currently scheduled to compete in the Barcelona Open next week, where Alcaraz will also be present as the top seed.

At the moment Musetti remains in the draw with a first round encounter against Spaniard Jaume Munar, but after the way he finished the Monte Carlo Masters final it seems likely that he will withdraw.
