Carlos Alcaraz assesses what the tennis world can expect from Novak Djokovic at the 2025 Australian Open.

At the 2024 edition of the event, the Serbian suffered his first loss at the Grand Slam since 2018 when Jannik Sinner won their semi-final match in four sets.

This kickstarted the Italian’s sensational season, which also included a US Open title win and his first year-end number one finish.

But with the 2024 season almost at a end Novak Djokovic is looking ahead to 2025, with the likes of Alcaraz and Sinner firmly in his sights.

What does Carlos Alcaraz expect from Novak Djokovic at the 2025 Australian Open?

Carlos Alcaraz will be aiming for his fifth Grand Slam title at the 2025 Australian Open.

Djokovic on the other hand, will be in pursuit of a record 25th Grand Slam and a record-extending 11th title at Melbourne Park.

The Serbian has dominated the first Grand Slam of the year for a significant portion of his career, and he will be determined to regain the title in 2025.

But after Alcaraz’s elimination from the ATP Finals, he thinks certain things must be in place for Djokovic to triumph Down Under.

“At the Australian Open, it depends on how hungry he is. If he goes to Australia with hunger, he is going to be one of the favourites to win Australia. Let’s see,” Alcaraz told reporters.

“He’s going to be fresh, for sure. A lot of time with his family, kids, wife. Have time to practice a lot, which is pretty good for a tennis player coming to a tournament with motivations. He’s going to be a fun player to watch, for sure.”

Has Carlos Alcaraz won the Australian Open?

At the age of just 21 Alcaraz has already won four Grand Slam titles, but he has yet to succeed at the Australian Open.

He has two Wimbledon titles to his name, in addition to his 2022 US Open and 2024 French Open triumphs.

But the World number three has yet to crack the code in Australia, where he lost in the quarter-finals to Alexander Zverev in January.

Alcaraz missed the 2023 edition of the event due to injury, and played in 2022, where he lost a third round clash to Matteo Berrettini in five sets.

The Italian went on to reach the semi-finals where he lost to Rafael Nadal, who went on to claim his 21st of his 22 Grand Slam titles.
