Carlos Alcaraz has given high praise to Lorenzo Musetti after beating him in the Monte Carlo Masters final.

Alcaraz wished a struggling Musetti well, after the Italian suffered a leg injury that prevented him from competing properly in the third set.

It is not just Musetti who has had problems in recent times though, with Alcaraz admitting he has had personal issues of his own over the past month.

Despite the bittersweet nature of how the match finished, Alcaraz has predicted big things for Musetti’s future.

Carlos Alcaraz says he knows what is going to happen to Lorenzo Musetti in the future

This was the first time that Musetti, who beat Alex De Minaur in his semi-final, had reached a Masters 1000 final.

However, Alcaraz told the Monte Carlo Masters crowd that he did not think that it was going to be Musetti’s last when speaking in the post-match ceremony.

The Murcian continued by explaining the parallels in their respective careers, having grown up playing against one another.

“I want to say congratulations to Lore for the great week you have done, your first Masters 1000 final,” said Alcaraz. “I’m pretty sure it’s not going to be your last time you’re going to play in this stadiums, in this round, you know making the final and fighting for great things, because I know you’re doing the great things on the court and off the court with a great team.

“Since always, because we grew up playing together in under-14 and under-16 and you’ve been doing and working with the same team, and I’m truly happy to see you all in this round, fighting for the great things.

“I know you’re doing great things off the court as well with a beautiful family, so I just want to say congratulations and well done.”

Musetti is not the only young ATP player that has received high praise from Alcaraz, who also backed Arthur Fils to challenge for the biggest titles going forward.

Lorenzo Musetti continues his climb up the ATP Rankings

Despite being unable to win the Monte Carlo Masters title, Musetti has still had a positive week and will be rewarded with a career-high ranking as a result.

Musetti will become the world number 11 when the ATP rankings are updated on Monday, with just 15 points separating him and a top 10 debut.

That top 10 debut could be coming soon for Musetti, who does not have many ranking points to defend throughout the rest of the clay court season.

Musetti only earned 300 points throughout the entirety of the clay court season last year, while the player who will be 15 points ahead of him, Casper Ruud, has a further 1660 points to defend after the Monte Carlo Masters.

Even if Musetti is physically unable to compete at the upcoming Barcelona Open, his ATP top 10 debut could still be confirmed, as Ruud is defending 500 points from winning the title last year.
