Carlos Alcaraz fell just short of a third successive Wimbledon title after losing this year’s final to Jannik Sinner.
Rafael Nadal commiserated with Alcaraz after his Wimbledon final with the ATP number one, which he lost 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4.
The pair battled it out for just over three hours on Centre Court, where the Italian managed to clinch a maiden Wimbledon title.
Sinner now only needs the French Open title to complete the career Grand Slam, with Alcaraz needing only an Australian Open win.
The Italian will likely celebrate the success for some time, with the Spaniard perhaps needing some time to recover from the defeat.

Carlos Alcaraz hailed for what he did after Wimbledon final loss to Jannik Sinner
But his true colours were on display right after the loss, as Alcaraz praised Sinner in his on-court speech at SW19.
And that didn’t go unnoticed by many tennis fans, one of whom commented on X: “Sportsmanship at its finest.”
A second fan wrote: “Pure class”, while a third said: “Alcaraz is definitely winning the gentlemanship, sportsmanship trophy from first round to final round.”
A fourth noted “Class act,” while a fifth wrote: “Pure class from Alcaraz. True sportsmanship and friendship on display. This is what tennis is all about.”
The praise continued from other tennis fans, who said: “Really love this, how he congratulated his friend”, and “Very humble – great guy!”
Former Wimbledon doubles champion praises ‘gracious’ Carlos Alcaraz after final loss
Alcaraz is certainly deserving of his praise, having adopted a fantastic attitude despite a disappointing defeat.
He does, however, undoubtedly have what it takes to bounce back sooner rather than later, having just enjoyed a superb grass court swing.
And he received further praise despite his defeat at SW19, with former Wimbledon doubles champion Todd Woodbridge also referencing Alcaraz’s post-match attitude in his analysis of the final.
He said on BBC One: “Today, Sinner’s execution was spot on. What he did was he stopped Carlos from playing the same game that [Grigor] Dimitrov played.
“He was able to stop Alcaraz playing that game through his power and precision. It is nice to see Alcaraz be so gracious in defeat.

“Sinner’s ability to take the oxygen away from his opponent. There was no part of the court where Carlos could get a breather.
“What Sinner did today was make Carlos feel like he had no time and we haven’t see someone do that hardly at all.”
But while Alcaraz has stolen many headlines for his actions in the aftermath of the final, it was Sinner who stole the show on Centre Court.
The pair played out another high-quality clash, but Sinner was often unplayable, with his emotions coming to the fore via a passionate roar when the winning point was sealed.
