Following a poor North American hard court swing the Davis Cup has come at just the right time for Carlos Alcaraz.
The World number three loves playing for his country as he showcased throughout the Olympic Games.
Carlos Alcaraz and Spain are playing their Davis Cup group games in front of their home fans in Valencia, and he is thriving in an environment that he is comfortable with.
This is just what he needed after winning after entering the Davis Cup with just one victory since winning a silver medal at the Paris Games.
Carlos Alcaraz discusses what he needs from the Davis Cup and his teammates
Alcaraz admitted he was struggling mentally following an early US Open exit in August. He lost his first match at the Cincinnati Open before Botic van de Zandschulp ended his run in New York.
But since arriving in Valencia, the camaraderie and support he has received being part of Spain’s Davis Cup team for the first time since 2022 has helped him get back on track.
While giving a glowing assessment of his teammates, Alcaraz said: “I need this week, being with the team, with all the players, all the staff from the Federation.
“Having them cheer me on in every point. Off the court we have a really good relationship. I need this atmosphere and these matches where I feel I am not playing alone. My energy is getting higher.”

Carlos Alcaraz wins again to help Spain stay unbeaten in Davis Cup group stages
Alcaraz backed up his win over Tomas Machac in Spain’s first group stage match by defeating France’s Ugo Humbert 6-3, 6-3 in what was their second meeting.
He looked far more assured and in control as he took control of proceedings early on before securing a victory in what was part of Spain’s 2-1 win over France.
This marked Alcaraz’s second victory over the Frenchman after he won their first meeting in the Wimbledon fourth round in July.
“I was pleased with the level I played from the beginning until the last ball. I was really focused. It was a high level of tennis,” Alcaraz said about his performance during an on-court interview.
“I was really, really intense. Probably one of the best matches I’ve played this year. Seeing my last month, I need these kinds of matches. I’m really really happy with my performance today.”
