Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner have dominated the ATP Tour over the past couple of years.
Alcaraz and Sinner have shared eight consecutive Grand Slam titles, which only one pair of ATP players have bettered in history.
This includes playing each other in the last three major finals, with the most recent seeing Alcaraz beat Sinner to win the US Open.
Former world number one Boris Becker had some strong words for the rest of the ATP Tour after the US Open, and he has now named one player who he thinks could challenge Alcaraz and Sinner.

Boris Becker suggests Jack Draper could challenge Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner
Becker coached Novak Djokovic for three years during the peak of ‘the big three’ era with Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer.
When speaking to talkSPORT about the current state of tennis, Becker admitted he had feared what would happen to the ATP Tour after both Federer and Nadal retired from tennis, while Djokovic is in the latter stages of his career.
However, Becker has been pleasantly surprised by the emergence of both Alcaraz and Sinner, but he admitted he would prefer it if there were more challengers to the top two players.
Becker has previously made big claims about Jack Draper, and he has suggested once again that the Briton could be the closest challenger to Alcaraz and Sinner if he stays fit.
“Yeah, I was one of the ones that was in doubt where it was going to go after Djokovic and Nadal and Federer and [Andy] Murray,” said Becker.
“I didn’t think it was going to be picked up that quickly, but thankfully with Sinner and Alcaraz you know ruling the tennis world you have again two excellent tennis players and we live in a tennis boom right now. I’m on the other side now, I work on television, I do a lot of commentary for all the Grand Slams and so I see there’s a lot more interest in tennis than I expected to be and that thankfully is for those two players.
“I wish we had a couple more you know…Alcaraz and Sinner one or the other won the last eight Grand Slams, talking about a dominant period. But you know, that’s what it is, I hope for your guys point of view I hope young Jack Draper is not injured that often, that he’s going to be more consistent, because you know once he’s fit he’s one of the very best tennis players, but you got to be 100% physically fit.”
Despite Becker’s hopes for the world number seven, Draper is currently injured and has already ended his 2025 season due to an arm issue.
It has been a breakthrough season for Draper, who won the Indian Wells title back in March and has been ranked as high as world number four this year.
During that run to the biggest title of his career so far, Draper beat Alcaraz and is one of only six players to do so this year.
Even after that big victory for Draper, he still claimed he was a long way off Alcaraz and Sinner’s level, and that has proven to be the case.
| Jack Draper | Vs Carlos Alcaraz | Vs Jannik Sinner |
| In 2025 | 2-1 Alcaraz | 0-0 |
| Overall | 4-2 Alcaraz | 1-1 |
Draper has a losing record against Alcaraz, and has not played against Sinner since losing to him in the 2024 US Open final.
Becker’s theory will not be put to the test until next year, as Draper looks to recover from his arm injury ahead of the Australian Open.
The five players who Patrick Mouratoglou thinks can challenge Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner
There are a lot of differing opinions on this subject, and the former coach of Naomi Osaka, Patrick Mouratoglou, also included Draper in his list of five future potential contenders to Alcaraz and Sinner.
Other names on Mouratoglou’s LinkedIn post include Ben Shelton, Felix Auger-Aliassime, Joao Fonseca and Holger Rune.
One particularly notable omission from this list is world number five Taylor Fritz, who just beat Alcaraz at the Laver Cup.
There were several comments about why Mouratoglou did not include Fritz, and the Frenchman responded to one of those by pointing out that Alcaraz tends to struggle after US Open and he was also unsure if the American number one would still be challenging in three years time.
“Carlitos has always struggled more or less after the US Open (by the way, it was the case of other legends in the past at the Laver Cup),” said Mouratoglou. “Being consistent until November is one of the main challenges of his pro career.
“A loss can happen anytime when you play against a good player if you’re not at 100%. Who can beat them? I’m just asking the question. If you think, Fritz can do it consistently in 3 years, I take note.”
