Italy are back-to-back Davis Cup champions after Jannik Sinner secured the winning point in the final against the Netherlands.
Sinner beat Tallon Griekspoor in match two after Matteo Berrettini’s match one win over Botic van de Zandschulp.
The 2-0 victory was a repeat of last year’s Davis Cup final scoreline, where Italy beat Australia, also in Malaga.
Impressively, it comes immediately after Italy won the Billie Jean King Cup, having secured a 2-0 win over Slovakia last week.
Having lost last year’s final, they now have five titles to their name, with the men securing their third Davis Cup title.

Billie Jean King and John Millman react to Italy’s Davis Cup win
Darren Cahill has congratulated Sinner on the win, although wider praise is now going towards Italian tennis in general.
Jean King took to social media to congratulate the men, writing on X: “Italy has done it again! Congratulations to feder tennis (Italian Tennis and Padel Federation) on winning the Davis Cup for the second year in a row!”
John Millman meanwhile wrote: “The Italian Federation, as well as the Italian tennis community, deserve the success they are having. Great tennis community – who love the sport, huge investment in Futures, Challengers and ATP/WTAs. Providing so many opportunities for people to watch and play tennis.”
Jannik Sinner and Jasmine Paolini flying the flag for Italian tennis
Italian tennis has gone from strength to strength in recent times, primarily led by world number one Sinner.
He boasts seven individual titles for 2024, and has finished his season with a stunning 73-6 win-loss record.
But his Davis Cup teammate Berrettini has also recovered from injury to shine brightly, winning all three of his matches this year after missing the 2023 tournament.
The women meanwhile were expertly led by experienced star Sara Errani, with WTA Tour number four Jasmine Paolini continuing her strong season in Malaga.
All Italians have certainly now put a target on their backs, with players from other nations set to be desperate to knock them off their perch in 2025, both individually and in team events.
