After a hilarious interaction between Ben Stiller and Nick Kyrgios at Indian Wells in 2022, the actor has weighed on the player-turned-pundit’s commentary style.
Nick Kyrgios is back at Flushing Meadows but has swapped out the racket for a microphone.
In 2024 Kyrgios explained how his wrist injury required rather innovative surgery and so instead has temporarily become a commentator for BBC and ESPN.
After the 2022 Wimbledon finalist made his broadcasting debut as a guest commentator for the 2023 ATP Finals alongside Andy Roddick and Jim Courier, he went on to commentate at the 2024 Australian Open.
Having commentated over the men’s singles final between Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic, Kyrgios has largely attracted praise for his punditry, with the charismatic Australian able to bring new insight into the booth.
Despite recently playing at a UTS (Ultimate Tennis Showdown) event, Kyrgios is firmly on punditry duty in New York this time and has been attracting the attention of actor and old friend Ben Stiller.

Ben Stiller is ‘enjoying’ Nick Kyrgios’ punditry role at the US Open
After a fan criticised Kyrgios’ commentary saying, “Nick Kyrgios’ no diction, no gumption, no projection, no energy, regular pedestrian commentary,” the Australian was quick to respond.
“I’m courtside you numbnuts, I can’t be as loud as I wanna be,” he replied, with Stiller later coming into bat for the former player.
He said: “Enjoying your court side,” before Kyrgios jokingly reponded: “Thankyou my friend. I still owe you tennis lessons and you still need to teach me how to act….”
In an amusing throwback to Kyrgios’ comments at Indian Wells two years ago when he pointed at Stiller saying, ‘Do I tell him how to act?’ after a disagreement with a fan, it appears the two have formed a funny relationship.
Still has always been a huge fan of tennis with regular attendance at the US Open as well as a partnership with Rafael Nadal in a friendly game of doubles at the 2013 BNP Paribas Showdown at Madison Square Gardens.
When is Nick Kyrgios going to return to the ATP Tour?
Although Kyrgios has obviously fallen out of the men’s rankings while he’s not been playing, he has a protected ranking of 21 and can use this for nine months upon his return to the tour.
Kyrgios’ most recent grand slam appearance was at the 2022 US Open, where he made the quarter-finals two months after he lost to Djokovic in the Wimbledon final.
Having undertaken a role as Djokovic’s hitting partner at Wimbledon this year, as well as looking fresh at the UTS Event last week, it likely won’t be too long before he is back on court.
