Ben Shelton has once again proved his worth on the doubles court after his opening-day win at the Laver Cup.
Shelton partnered with comaptriot Taylor Fritz for Team World as they defeated Team Europe duo Carlos Alcaraz and Alexander Zverev.
Shelton said they would play aggressive, and that tactic worked wonders as they emerged victorious 7-6(7-5), 6-4.
Fritz and Shelton needed one hour and 35 minutes to clinch the win, which leaves the scored tied at 2-2 after day one of the Laver Cup.
Shelton also wants to partner Frances Tiafoe, with the former certainly a very reliable doubles player that John McEnroe can call upon.

The youngster, also a very talented singles player, has now explained why he is so comfortable in doubles.
“I think I got really used to playing doubles in pressure situations, that’s probably the only difference between me and a lot of the guys out here, because playing college tennis, the doubles points are pretty huge,” Shelton said in his latest Laver Cup press conference.
“Obviously a much bigger stage out here, but I got used to caring a lot about doubles and really focusing and it being an intense atmosphere. So I feel really comfortable, but I feel like every match-up makes doubles so much different.”

Team World captain McEnroe was delighted with the performance and result from Frtiz and Shelton, particularly given the calibre of the opposition.
Shelton now boasts a superb Laver Cup record, with the 21-year-old now on a 4-0 win-loss record at the event.
He won one singles match and two doubles matches in Vancouver last year, having played with both Tiafoe and Felix Auger-Aliassime.

Shelton worked well with Fritz this time around, in what was an encounter between two first-time pairings.
The European duo also formed a strong partnership, but in the end the Americans were able to stave off the challenge to secure a vital point at this stage of the Laver Cup.
