The US Open has now arrived, with players from across the ATP and WTA tours looking to end the Grand Slam season on a high.

But withdrawals have somewhat overshadowed the US Open before the main draw action has even got underway.

WTA star Qinwen Zheng has pulled out of the US Open, along with fellow icons Paula Badosa and Ons Jabeur.

On the ATP Tour, Matteo Berrettini has withdrawn from the US Open, with Grigor Dimitrov out of the US Open as well.

Qualifiers at Flushing Meadows are currently underway, with the main draw starting in New York on Sunday.

ATP top 20 player withdraws from US Open with injury

But yet another player has been forced to withdraw from the Grand Slam, with Arthur Fils confirming his last-minute exit on his Instagram story.

He wrote: “After an injury that kept me away from the court, a warning sign felt during my comeback – first in Toronto, then in Cincinnati – led me to make the difficult but reasonable decision to withdraw from the US Open.

“This decision was made to allow for a full recovery. I’m working hard every day with my team to come back strong and be ready for this end of season. Thank you all for your support.”

Arthur Fils’ entire Grand Slam history amid US Open withdrawal

Fils withdrew from Wimbledon this season, and has now unfortunately been forced into the same decision at the US Open.

The Frenchman was, however, able to play in the 2025 Australian Open and French Open, reaching the third round on both occasions.

His best Grand Slam run ended in the fourth round of Wimbledon in 2024, with Fils now unable to improve upon that record in New York.

But at 21, the future remains very bright for the injury-hit player, who reached 14th in the ATP Tour rankings earlier this season.

He has since slipped to 20th in the world rankings, with 22 wins and 11 losses to his name so far this season.

And despite his youth, Fils is already a three-time ATP champion, triumphing at Tokyo and Hamburg last year after his 2023 success in Lyon.

But his back injury has caused him real issues already, with the Frenchman forced to pull out of his home Grand Slam in May after reaching round three.

Returning to the court at the Canadian Open, he lost his second match in Toronto, before again being forced to withdraw from the Cincinnati Open.
