Coco Gauff is likely to be on the lookout for a new coach after parting ways with Brad Gilbert after 14 months together.

Many tennis fans want Gauff to hire Wim Fissette, who has only recently split from fellow WTA star Naomi Osaka.

It remains to be seen what the future holds for Gilbert, but he is likely to land a top role next given his respect within the game.

Osaka has quickly moved on to Patrick Mouratoglou, but Gauff would be wise to take more time to make her decision.

After runs to the semi-finals of the Australian Open and French Open, fourth round exits were suffered at Wimbledon and the US Open.

The latter was particularly disappointing given that the American youngster had stormed to a maiden Grand Slam title in Flushing Meadows in 2023.

Her fellow US Open winner Andy Roddick has now shared his thoughts on the decision to part with Gilbert, with Roddick telling Tennis Channel: “I don’t know that I was shocked, it’s been a bit of a rough year.

“What I’m curious about going forward is, is there going to be a co-coach situation, is there going to be a name-brand coach? Is this something that she enjoyed looking back on, or was the attention of the relationship a negative?

“Obviously out of the gates it was stunning success, right? You would trade all of the tough moments for that US Open win that she had last year.

“But I’m curious, I don’t think she would be in a rush to do anything, because I think JC [Jean-Christophe] Faurel is in her corner and she’s comfortable there, easy for me to say. Listen, your guess is as good as mine, I just don’t think she’s going to be in a rush to fix it immediately.”

Who could Coco Gauff hire as her next coach?

Gauff and Gilbert did enjoy plenty of success together, with the 2023 US Open title the obvious highlight.

But seemingly there were issues there that couldn’t be overcome, although fortunately it does seem like there are no hard feelings after the split.

Gilbert could be snapped up quickly by either a male or female star, with Gauff needing to find the right person to get back to winning ways.

That certainly won’t be easy, with the American perhaps uncertain whether she needs to fix her flaws or indeed take her strengths to the next level.

Finding a coach who can do both would be the dream scenario, but there are not a lot of available options at this moment in time.

Boris Becker and Rennae Stubbs are options for Gauff, who will be keen to get that second Grand Slam title under her belt sooner rather than later.
