Andy Roddick has shared an early prediction for the women’s singles winner of the 2024 US Open at Flushing Meadows.

Roddick says the US Open has improved, with the American having won his one and only Grand Slam title at the 2003 event.

He lost his four other Grand Slam finals, including another US Open final appearance in 2006, this time against Roger Federer.

Roddick is playing an exhibition match at the US Open, with the main draw for the tournament rapidly approaching.

Novak Djokovic is the defending champion in the men’s singles, with Coco Gauff clinching the women’s title in 2023.

Andy Roddick makes Aryna Sabalenka prediction at the US Open

The American heads into the tournament in poor form, with Roddick perhaps unsurprisingly avoiding Gauff when predicting his winner.

Speaking on Served with Andy Roddick, he said: “I think there is a clear favourite on the women’s side and I don’t often say that. I think [Aryna] Sabalenka is the clear favourite.”

Jon Wertheim agreed with Roddick, saying: “I wish we argued more but at this point, no. I think you look at what she does on a fast court and what she does at Cincinnati. Who would you pick over her? That to me is the issue.”

Is Aryna Sabalenka the clear US Open favourite?

Sabalenka is a real force on the hard courts, having reached the semi-finals and quarter-finals of this summer’s Washington Open and Canadian Open respectively.

But that was followed up by a superb victory at the Cincinnati Open, where the Belarusian defeated Jessica Pegula in straight sets.

It places her in a superb position ahead of the US Open at Flushing Meadows, where she lost to Gauff in last year’s final.

But either side of that defeat, Sabalenka won her two Grand Slams singles titles to date, with both coming on the hard courts of the Australian Open.

Sabalenka is the US Open second seed, behind only world number one Iga Swiatek and ahead of Gauff in third.
