The 2025 Australian Open is now just one day away, as the stars of the ATP Tour set their sights on the year’s first Grand Slam.

There is nothing quite like Grand Slam tennis, and after a four-month hiatus, the sport heads to Melbourne for the first Major of the year.

Jannik Sinner won the 2024 Australian Open, as he picked up a Grand Slam title for the first time in his young career, taking down Russia’s Daniil Medvedev in the final.

The Italian had surprised ten-time winner and defending champion Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals, as the Serb lost to Sinner at a Grand Slam for the first time.

Now four-time Major champion Carlos Alcaraz lost to Alexander Zverev in the quarter-finals, as the Spaniard’s struggles down under continued.

There are plenty of names that will be looking for a big performance at this year’s Australian Open, but one ATP legend is confidently predicting one star to come out on top.

Andy Roddick and Jon Wertheim both predict Jannik Sinner to win the 2025 Australian Open

Speaking on his Served with Andy Roddick podcast, former world number one Andy Roddick, made his predictions for who he thinks will win this year’s Australian Open.

“I have got Sinner/Alcaraz [in the final] and I have got Sinner winning this tournament,” he said.

Roddick’s co-host Jon Wertheim agreed but argued that it isn’t a foregone conclusion.

“I am too [picking Sinner],” he said.

“I think a lot can happen, we are a long way away from the days of a big three.

“A lot of variables, [Alexander] Zverev could win this tournament or go down in the first round.

“But I am with you, I think Sinner is your defending champion.”

Wertheim may have stuck with the status quo when predicting his champion, but went bold with his runner-up pick.

“I’m all in on Sebastian Korda, I think he’s a player to watch,” he said.

Who could Sebastian Korda face on the way to the Australian Open final?

Wertheim’s Sebastian Korda prediction may be slightly left of field, but just how unrealistic would it be to see the American reach the final at this year’s Australian Open?

The 24-year-old has been placed in the same section of the draw as Spanish world number three Carlos Alcaraz, who Wertheim predicted Korda to shock in the fourth round.

2024 Montreal Open semi-finalist Korda would likely need to beat Alcaraz, Djokovic, and Zverev if he were to reach a maiden Grand Slam final.

A tough ask for the American, who has reached just one Major quarter-final in his career to date, at the Australian Open two years ago.

Korda has made a positive start to 2025, however, finishing as runner-up to Felix Auger-Aliassime at the Adelaide International.

Speaking after the match, Korda referenced his injury at the end of 2024, as he looked towards the future.

“It’s been a difficult couple of months, but we’ve put in a lot of hard work, and I’m sure there’s a lot more things in front of us,” he said.

Korda will begin his Australian Open campaign against Lukas Klein on Monday, January 13.
