The Montreal Open is in full swing and for Sebastian Korda, he is riding the crest of a wave right now.
When it comes to luck, Korda has had very little during his career but now he’s hoping to get the rub of the green.
Korda has had some rotten draws during his career, typically meeting top players at the early stages of big tournaments.
Last week, with the Olympics in full swing, he went to play at a tournament in Washington and came away with the trophy.
Now, a week down the line he’s just defeated compatriot Taylor Fritz to set up a quarter-final date with Alexander Zverev today.
Korda is firmly in the mix to win another title in Montreal and he’s impressed Jon Wertheim along the way.

What Jon Wertheim has said about Seb Korda following big win
Although Fritz has had a pretty busy schedule of late this does come as a bit of a shock result.
Fritz got to the quarter-final at Wimbledon and last week claimed a bronze medal at the Olympics alongside Tommy Paul in the men’s doubles.
Korda came through the match the 6-4, 7-6 winner and after the game, Wertheim admitted he’s been impressed with him.
The tennis pundit told the Tennis Channel: “We always say the next phase after you win a tournament is can you back it up? This is a real statement he’s made and you remember this is a guy who’s had a lot of bad luck in his career, he’s had bad luck with injuries, he had bad luck at Wimbledon with the draw.
“For him to get the biggest win of his career at Washington DC and then a week later still be in the next tournament, that’s a huge statement he’s made and it’s a really good sign.”
Korda faces really tough test against Zverev
At 24, Korda is starting to gain some momentum as a professional player and there is a sense that a real breakthrough is on the horizon.
It’s fair to say that Korda hasn’t been particularly brilliant in the majors with his best coming in 2023 when he reached the quarter-final in Australia.
In the other three, he’s never gone past the fourth round, however, and at Flushing Meadows, he’s never won more than one match whenever he’s played at the event.
Zverev will give Korda a really big test of his mettle and if he can come through that, his confidence could really go through the roof.
Korda will already be looking forward to the US Open and as Wertheim mentions, the hope will be that he can finally land lucky with the draw and get on a good run during his home grand slam event.
