Andy Roddick has named two players that Mirra Andreeva reminds him of.

The 17-year-old has captivated the tennis world in 2025 by producing some special performances to earn back-to-back WTA 1000 titles.

After lifting the titles in Dubai and Indian Wells, Andreeva is the in-form player going into the Miami Open at Hard Rock Stadium.

The Russian is entering this tournament under far more pressure than her previous event and it remains to be seen how she handles the expectation.

Who does Andy Roddick think Mirra Andreeva plays like?

Mirra Andreeva sent a strong statement in the early stages of the 2025 season with her recent success. She is showing great poise and consistency for a player at such a young age.

Her resilience is another impressive quality as Andreeva battled back from a set down to defeat Aryna Sabalenka in the Indian Wells final.

She possesses what looks like such a complete game despite being just 17, and the sky is the limit for the WTA Tour’s World number six.

Andreeva’s performances have been so impressive that Andy Roddick says she plays like Justine Henin, and the latest guest on his ‘Served’ podcast, Kim Clijsters.

He told the Belgian: “It’s weird, when she hits winners it looks like people are stunned. It doesn’t look like she hits it harder than anyone else, it’s almost like she picks the right trajectory and shot. Kind of knocks it down, can play it high.

“It’s strange. It almost reminds me of – she serves better but the way Hingis used to play. She would play against your movement a little bit. It’s like she is a step ahead. It feels like the closest comparison is a combination of you [Clijsters] and Hingis.

“The way she slides and will hit that chipped forehand from different positions. She is as complete as anyone on tour now.”

Mirra Andreeva aims to join an exclusive club if she wins the Miami Open

After winning Indian Wells, Andreeva now has an opportunity to win Miami and complete what is known as the ‘Sunshine Double’.

If Andreeva was to triumph in Miami, she would become the fifth player to win both tournaments in the same season after Clijsters, Steffi Graf, Victoria Azarenka and Iga Swiatek.

Andreeva’s path to the title may go through the likes of Jessica Pegula, Emma Navarro, and Amanda Anisimova, who are in her quarter of the draw.

As she did at Indian Wells, the Russian could face Swiatek in the Miami Open semi-finals and should she defeat the Pole again, another final against Sabalenka could take place.
