Jannik Sinner has enjoyed a remarkable rise in his brief tennis career so far, with the Italian now number one in the world.

He will have been very disappointed to have lost out to fellow young star Carlos Alcaraz at the French Open, where he fell at the final four hurdle.

There was, however, no shame in losing to the ultimate winner of the tournament, particularly in the semi-finals and particularly in five sets.

Both players have since moved on and are now getting ready for the third major of the year at Wimbledon.

It marks the pinnacle of the grass-court season, with both Alcaraz and Sinner surely confident of a strong showing in London.

Alexander Zverev shares what he thinks about Jannik Sinner

The former has been spotted in training ahead of his appearance at Queen’s, while the latter is carrying out his preparation through the Halle Open.

It is Sinner who heads into Wimbledon as the top-ranked player in the world, with his fellow professional Alexander Zverev now giving his honest thoughts on the Italian after his rapid rise.

“He’s a great guy, he’s very down to earth,” Zverev told Tennis TV. “He’s very unlike a world number one to be honest because he’s just a simple guy, there is nothing about him that if he walks down a street would suggest ‘okay I’m the world number one in tennis’.

“That’s not how he is. But I also think that’s one of the biggest compliments that you can give him, he’s stayed the same throughout the whole process and I think everybody is very happy for him.”

What does Wimbledon have in store for Jannik Sinner?

Sinner began the year with a superb first Grand Slam title at the Australian Open, and will now have his sights set on another title.

Wimbledon represents the perfect opportunity for the Italian to do just that, with the competition getting underway next month.

The world number one will then turn his attentions to the Paris Olympics, where he will represent his country in both singles and doubles.

Up first, however, is the grass of Wimbledon, with Sinner having learned a lot from his semi-final run in 2023.

Another meeting with Alcaraz is undoubtedly on the cards after their French Open battle, with Sinner admitting that the Spaniard makes him a better player after that meeting in Paris.

Zverev meanwhile also felt the full power of the young Spanish star in the French capital, with the former losing the final to the latter in a five-set thriller.
