Jannik Sinner is on top of the world right now, with the Italian currently first place in the ATP rankings.

It comes despite the 22-year-old falling at the semi-final hurdle of the most recent major, where he was knocked out of the French Open by Carlos Alcaraz.

As anticipated, the two young stars played out a thriller on the clay in Paris, with Alcaraz winning 2-6, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3.

The world number one now heads into the grass season with plenty of pressure on his shoulders, with Sinner the number one seed at Wimbledon.

The London major is the third of the season, with Sinner aiming to double his Grand Slam count after winning his first at the Australian Open earlier this year.

Jannik Sinner reveals what he has learned from Wimbledon 2023

The new world number one did enjoy a lengthy run at Wimbledon last time out, but like the recent French Open, he exited at the last four stage.

A semi-final defeat was suffered at the hands of Novak Djokovic, with Sinner now revealing exactly what he has learned from that tournament.

“I have to live with the pressure and expectations, but that’s right, the career goes on and the goals never stop,” said Sinner, as quoted by Eurosport. “It’s a short season, but there are a lot of points up for grabs.

“Last year with the Wimbledon semi-final I learned that I can play well, this year we start very high with the ATP 500 in Halle. We hope to start the season on grass well, it will be very important.”

Will Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz renew their rivalry at Wimbledon?

Wimbledon is now almost here, with the major competition getting underway at the very beginning of July.

The world’s top stars will head to the English capital as they seek success, with Sinner undoubtedly keen to live up to his number one status.

He has certainly earned the top rank, but now it is all about staying there, with Alcaraz hot on his heels in number two.

The pair have now matched two tennis legends with the latest ATP rankings, with Sinner and Alcaraz the first pair of 22-and-under players to hold the top two spots since Roger Federer and Andy Roddick in August 2004.

Another match-up could, of course, already take place between the rivals next month, which is a potential clash that excites the Italian.

Both young stars will, however, be very aware of just how deadly veteran Djokovic can be on the grass courts.

The Serbian is chasing a record-equalling eighth Wimbledon title, but his doctor has confirmed that he will not be 100% fit for the competition after undergoing knee surgery.
