Alexander Zverev and Stefanos Tsitsipas are among the star names looking to win the Laver Cup under captain Bjorn Borg.

Fellow Team Europe ace Carlos Alcaraz is desperate to win the Laver Cup, which is taking place this week in Berlin.

Having won the first four editions of the tournament, captain Borg has since lost twice to Team World and their captain John McEnroe.

Another Team Europe star in Daniil Medvedev says Alcaraz and Zverev will shine at the Laver Cup, with Grigor Dimitrov and Casper Ruud completing the lineup.

McEnroe meanwhile has called upon the likes of compatriots Taylor Fritz, Frances Tiafoe and Ben Shelton.

What do Alexander Zverev and Stefanos Tsitsipas think about Bjorn Borg?

And completing the Team World side in Berlin are Alejandro Tabilo, Francisco Cerundolo and Thanasi Kokkinakis.

Team Europe duo Zverev and Tsitsipas have taken time out of their preparations to praise the job done by Borg, in what will be his final Laver Cup appearance as captain.

“Favourite memory of Bjorn, has to be a Laver Cup memory,” said Zverev, as per the Laver Cup on X. “I think just him being a captain, I think especially in Geneva where it went so tight, and I had to win the deciding match, just him after the match sprinting towards us, we’re all in a pile, and him celebrating afterwards. It was so special to see.”

And reflecting on what it is like to work with Borg, Tsitsipas noted: “His personality but also his knowledge about the game.

“He knows how to recognise each player independently of their playing style and the way that they go about their game.

“I love people like him, and we’ve gotten along for so many years. I’m simply honoured to call him my Laver Cup captain and a friend outside of the Laver Cup.”

Can Bjorn Borg guide Team Europe to success in his last Laver Cup?

There are not many former professionals out there who boast a better playing career than Swedish legend Borg.

He secured a stunning 11 Grand Slam titles during his time on the court, with only Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and Pete Sampras winning more in the Open Era.

Borg can add four Laver Cup successes to his honours list, having guided Team Europe to wins in 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2021.

He unsurprisingly has the utmost respect of the current stars, with Medvedev and Ruud also singing his praises in Berlin this week.

“To win the Laver Cup in Boston with him was a nice feeling,” said Medvedev. “And I think for me the most impressive thing about Bjorn is how many Grand Slams he won in nowadays a ‘short’ career in a way.”

Ruud meanwhile noted: “Just having him on the bench for the first time I was quite nervous, but he was really able to calm me down.

“Super nice guy, always has a smile on his face, no matter the day no matter the place, and always a joy to play for him and being around him.”
