We’re now into the second week of the US Open as the competition hots up and the prospects of winning a Grand Slam become more and more realistic.
Sunday saw a major upset in the women’s fourth round as defending champion Coco Gauff was beaten by fellow American Emma Navarro in straight sets to lose for the first time in 10 matches at Flushing Meadows
Number two seed Aryna Sabalenka secured her passage with a win against Elise Mertens and was joined in the quarter-finals by Paula Badosa and Zheng Quinwen.
Elsewhere in the men’s, there were wins for Gregor Dimitrov, Taylor Fritz, Alexander Zverev, and Frances Tiaofe.
Day eight will see the remainder of the round of 16 ties played, which includes both world number ones.

Key storylines to follow on day eight of the 2024 US Open
Only two US stars will be in action today as Jessica Pegula kicks off the action against world number 18 Diana Shnaider at the Arthur Ashe Stadium.
Fellow US star Tommy Paul will face his most difficult challenge as he faces world number one and tournament favorite Jannik Sinner.
Daniil Medvedev, the only player to have previously won the US Open on the men’s side that is still in the tournament, also plays today. He faces Portugal’s Nuno Borges.
British number one Jack Draper will look to reach the last eight of the US Open for the first time by beating Thomas Mahac inside the Louis Armstrong Stadium and Alex De Minaur goes up against Jordan Thompson in an all-Australian affair.
Also on the women’s side of the draw, Iga Swiatek faces Liudmila Samsonova. Swiatek hasn’t dropped a set in the tournament so far.
