Jannik Sinner now has a massive opportunity to be crowned a Grand Slam champion for the second time.
The Italian player won the Australian Open and now the world number one has seen Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic dumped out of the US Open.
Sinner came into the tournament facing a backlash from certain outlets over the news of a failed doping test coming out in the media – although he’s been cleared of any wrongdoing and avoided a fine.
Now, the player is going to come up against Tommy Paul with the American star looking to progress beyond the fourth round for the very first time at Flushing Meadows.

Jannik Sinner shares what he really likes about Tommy Paul
It would appear that Sinner has a lot of respect for his next opponent and an exciting match looks to be in store.
The US Open is set to hit the second week and there is still a sense that an American can go really deep at this tournament.
Sinner is a fan of Paul and he’s suggested what he will need to be careful of against the reigning Queen’s champion.
He said live on YouTube: “It’s a big challenge, he’s a great mover. He has improved a lot in the last period of time. It’s going to be a tough challenge. He plays some great tennis, especially here in America.
“It’s going to be a tough match for me. But hopefully, I am ready to compete in the best possible way and I am just looking forward to it. These matches I’m very excited to play.”
Sinner is now favourite to claim US Open crown
As the world’s number one player, Sinner will never get a better opportunity to win the US Open, with Alcaraz and Djokovic now out.
Although he’d naturally fancy beating both of those players, it’s fair to say that those two not being involved any longer does make things a little easier.
Paul will provide a tough opponent though and much like Sinner will view this as a big opportunity to make the latter stages of a major tournament.
Sinner will understand just how good Paul is on his day and this match looks like one to seriously watch when it gets underway tomorrow.
Winnig this match will tell Sinner a lot about where his game is at. As a result, a win is a must and he will hope to avoid passing up on this amazing opportunity to win another Grand Slam title.
