Jannik Sinner had an incredible year in 2024, adding eight titles to his name and becoming the first Italian ATP player in history to reach world number one.

He dominated on hard courts, with seven of the crowns coming on his preferred surface, including the first two Grand Slams of his career.

Sinner won the Australian Open and the US Open, as well as three Masters 1000 events, and emerged victorious at the ATP Finals.

Among all of his successes last season, the young star also achieved a feat only Roger Federer had managed before him.

Jannik Sinner’s incredible feat that matched Roger Federer

Sinner finished 2024 with a record of 73 wins and only six losses, three of which came on clay, his least favourite of the three surfaces.

In each of those six defeats, he was able to take a set, which saw him become the second player in the Open Era to win at least one set in every match he played in a season.

The last to achieve the feat was Federer, who did so in 2005, the year he won back-to-back titles at Wimbledon and the US Open.

Both of Sinner’s losses at Grand Slam events in 2024 went the distance, forcing Carlos Alcaraz and Daniil Medvedev to fifth and final sets at Roland Garros and Wimbledon, respectively.

Jannik Sinner’s six defeats during his impressive 2024 season

After winning the first two events of the year, Sinner lost his first match in 2024 in the semifinals of the Indian Wells Open to Alcaraz.

He then bowed out in the final four of the Monte Carlo Masters to Stefanos Tsitsipas, before his semifinal exit at Roland Garros to his Spanish rival.

Sinner won every match of the grass swing up until the quarterfinals of Wimbledon, where he was overcome by Medvedev.

During the North American hard-court season, he lost at the Canadian Open to Andrey Rublev, before going on to win the Cincinnati Open and the US Open.

His last defeat of the year came in the final of the China Open, where once again Alcaraz got the better of him.
