Jannik Sinner might be serving a three-month ban at the moment but on the current professional tennis circuit, he’s very much the player to beat.
Sinner will return to action at an ATP event in Rome just before the French Open, which takes place at Roland Garros, and he should still go into that event as the world number one.
The Italian player won the Australian Open in January, edging out Alexander Zverev in the final to retain the title that he won for the very first time 12 months previously in Melbourne.
Sinner has come in for some criticism for his ban – although he won’t dwell on it for too long. This will give him the determination to come back and prove that he’s the very best out there even more.
Darren Cahill is Sinner’s trusted coach these days. It’s his final year in tennis and he will be keen to oversee plenty more tournament wins in what will be his final year as a coach.

Sinner defied the odds to come from behind and beat Daniil Medvedev to claim his maiden Grand Slam title in 2024 and it proved to be quite the year for the Italian star.
Cahill has admitted that something remarkable took place during that final and has suggested that Sinner surprised him during the comeback win against the Russian player.
He said on the Tennis Insider Club podcast: “Seeing what he did last year when he was able to come from two sets down to beat Medvedev with the way he was playing was remarkable, he changed his game completely.
“We knew he was going to play more aggressively because he was tired, he’d been to hell and back physically with his matches. Jannik’s draw was tough but it wasn’t as physical so we knew that physically he’d be feeling better.
“Then, to find a way to turn that round, but to do it and do it with such calm as well, I was sat watching and thinking, ‘How are you doing this?’, I’d be going out of mind, he’s a man well beyond his years with maturity but he’s still a kid in many ways as well.”

Sinner deserves immense credit for how he won his maiden Grand Slam crown and he was massively up against it during the match.
Medvedev looked to be cruising to his second Grand Slam crown but ultimately he just ran out of steam with the finish line well within his grasp.

Sinner got the first one off his back in Melbourne last year and ultimately he’s massively kicked on since then, collecting more Grand Slam titles.
At 23-years-old, Sinner has the rest of his career ahead of him after his ban and it’s seriously exciting to see what the world number one can achieve when it comes to secure dominance within the world of tennis.
