Serena Williams reached stunning heights in her glittering career, which surprisingly may not be over just yet.

Williams could make a shock return in 2026, although it remains to be seen what form that could take for the 44-year-old, if any.

Regardless, Williams will be remembered for her stunning achievements on the court, having dominated the WTA Tour for some time.

World number one Aryna Sabalenka thinks Williams is the best player ever, with the American having also reached that ranking during her stunning career.

Serena Williams once admitted similarities with Andre Agassi

As well as firing her way to the top of the world, Williams won 23 Grand Slam titles, and a huge 73 WTA titles overall.

While there was no success at the 2013 Australian Open, she was asked an intriguing question involving ATP star Andre Agassi in the build-up.

It was posed to Williams in her opening press conference in Melbourne: “People have been comparing you lately to Andre in terms of coming into your best tennis a little later on in life, feeling an appreciation for it because of things you’ve been through. Is that fair? Do you agree with that?”

She replied: “Yeah, you know, I love Andre. He’s a great guy. I think our careers have some similarities, maybe just a little bit. I was playing fabulous a decade ago, as well, as he was in his career.

“Uhm, it’s not a bad person to be compared to. He’s someone that definitely is historic and a great American tennis player.”

If Serena Williams thought she was playing her best tennis before the 2013 Australian Open

Williams entered the 2013 Australian Open as a 15-time major champion, having triumphed at both Wimbledon and the French Open the year before.

When asked if she was playing the best tennis of her life before the event in Melbourne, she said: “I can’t answer that. I get asked that all the time.

“But I feel like I’m just in the moment right now. For this moment, I’m playing well. I really hope I can keep it up and continue to play well.”

Is Serena Williams the greatest tennis player of all time?

Ultimately, she couldn’t continue her momentum at that year’s Australian Open, falling in the quarterfinals to fellow American Sloane Stephens.

But that setback clearly didn’t impact the legend too much, with Williams recovering immediately to win the 2013 French Open and US Open.
