Wimbledon is just around the corner, and from a Great Britain perspective, the hope will be that Jack Draper, Emma Raducanu and Katie Boulter can go deep in their respective competitions.

The All England Club will be stocking up on strawberries and cream for a fortnight of tennis, with Great Britain’s finest set to try and capture the hearts of the audience.

Draper lost in the semi-final at Queen’s to Jiri Lehecka, whilst Katie Boulter lost in the quarter-final of the Nottingham Open this week, with Raducanu taking the week off.

There will be a number of Great British stars in action over the fortnight at Wimbledon, with the list of wildcards throwing up some unknown quantities who have been handed a back-door opportunity at the event.

Wimbledon organisers have made huge error ahead of 2025 tournament

Naturally, each of the four Grand Slam events has the power to award wildcards to whoever they see fit.

However, this year there has been a glaring oversight and little in the way of logical thinking when it comes to the Wimbledon organisers.

In putting so many Great British stars forward, Wimbledon haven’t really used the wildcards properly, choosing to overlook any real achievements at the expense of getting in as many Brits as possible.

For example, the cut-off for the seedings came before Roland Garros and that means that the new world number 67 Lois Boisson has missed out on Wimbledon after being overlooked for a wildcard.

She reached the semi-final of the event at the French Open and it’s a bit of a joke that she won’t be at the tournament unless she comes through the qualifying event this week.

Who are the Great Britain entrants at this year’s Wimbledon

In total, there will be 23 Great Britain participants in the main draw at Wimbledon this year, with the number exceeding 50 if juniors, doubles and wheelchair participants are included.

Wimbledon is a great tournament and of course, it’s great that the organisers have given the stars from these shores the chance to shine.

However, it could cost the British players in the future, particularly at the French Open, where they’re unlikely to give any Brits the nod after inexplicably ignoring Boisson for this year’s event.

There seems to be no rhyme or reason for who gets the wildcards, and in the future, the organisers perhaps need to be a little bit more savvy in order to help out the Brits at other tournaments away from Wimbledon.
