Nick Kyrgios will not be playing singles at Wimbledon this year, with the Australian missing out on a wildcard.
Currently ranked 899th on the ATP Tour, the Australian has not received such status from the powers that be at the All England Club, which is very disappointing.
Kyrgios has, however, received a wildcard to play doubles at Wimbledon, where he will team up with fellow maverick Alexander Bublik.
But in singles, British players have received the majority of men’s wildcards, with Kyrgios’ snub certainly a big mistake.
What is the best Grand Slam in tennis right now?
Wimbledon have made a mistake by not giving Nick Kyrgios a wildcard
Kyrgios is certainly not the most-loved tennis player, with his rogue style and manner not exactly adored by everyone.
But the Australian undoubtedly has his supporters and admirers, who simply cannot help but love his brash but entertaining approach to the sport.
Kyrgios is clearly a huge talent, with his shot-making and raw power often up there with the very best during his prime.
He showed no fear in meetings with the Big Three of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic, and even holds a positive head-to-head record with the Serbian.
The Australian did, however, lose their most important clash when they came face-to-face in the 2022 Wimbledon final.
While injuries certainly haven’t helped, Kyrgios might just have wasted his huge potential, but he’s back on grass and surely capable of causing an upset or two.
Unfortunately that won’t arrive at Wimbledon, where his appearance would have brought the added bonus of huge crowds and sheer entertainment, both on and off the court.
Such blockbuster players are even more important given that Carlos Alcaraz will miss Wimbledon because of his wrist injury.
Worryingly for men’s tennis, Lorenzo Musetti, Sebastian Korda and Tomas Machac have also withdrawn from the Grand Slam.
With only eight wildcards available, it was always going to be a big ask for Kyrgios to be included, but he really should have been on the list.
Is men’s tennis boring without Carlos Alcaraz?
Gael Monfils and Dan Evans join Nick Kyrgios in Wimbledon snub
Kyrgios is by no means the only notable ATP player to miss out on a Wimbledon wildcard this year, far from it.
His fellow icon Gael Monfils has also been overlooked, which is hugely disappointing given that he will now never play at Wimbledon again.
The legendary Frenchman, who is also capable of attracting big crowds thanks to his unique style, is retiring from tennis at the end of the season.
And Dan Evans is in a very similar position, with the Briton not receiving a wildcard despite his imminent retirement after the tournament.

Instead, his compatriots Jacob Fearnley, Arthur Fery, Jack Pinnington Jones, Toby Samuel, Harry Wendelken and Felix Gill have all been selected.
And they will be joined by popular figures Stan Wawrinka and Grigor Dimitrov, who hail from Switzerland and Bulgaria respectively.
Their appearances should encourage more fans to attend SW19, while organizers could boost the event further by giving Serena Williams a Wimbledon singles wildcard.
