A new era has been welcomed in the world of tennis with Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner spearheading the future of the sport.

When Roger Federer retired in 2021, shortly followed by Rafael Nadal in 2024, it wasn’t completely clear where the next big rivalry was going to come from.

Enter Alcaraz and Sinner or ‘Sincaraz’, if you will…

Novak Djokovic is still on the ATP Tour, but doubts remain over whether he will claim another big title, with Alcaraz and Sinner now sharing the last eight Grand Slams, leaving the Serb stuck on 24 majors.

Despite their tender years, a significant haul of trophies already has led to discussions being had over which player will complete the sport first, with Sinner possibly having a big advantage over Alcaraz.

Why Jannik Sinner has an advantage over Carlos Alcaraz in quest to complete tennis

Completing the game of tennis is hard and there is no saying that both players will achieve it. Indeed, Djokovic only managed it last year when he finally claimed a gold medal at the Olympics.

In beating Alcaraz in the final, the Spaniard probably missed a very big opportunity to claim that title when it was being played on a clay court, something that is unlikely to happen again during his career.

Whilst it would take a brave man to bet on Alcaraz and Sinner winning all of the game’s top titles, the Olympics is a competition that only takes place once every four years, and that is the one that could have a decisive say in the discussion.

The next Olympics are in Los Angeles, with the tennis taking place on a hard court – something that might well favour Sinner, given his brilliant record in 2025 on that surface.

Other factors will come into consideration when discussing who will complete the set when it comes to Sinner and Alcaraz and with Djokovic not completing it until he was 37, there is an argument to suggest that neither player will be getting the set any time soon.

Competition for Alcaraz and Sinner looks pretty non-existent at the moment. Although players are capable of stepping up and beating the pair, there isn’t a player emerging to start pinching some of the Grand Slam titles out of their hands.

As a result, the next few years do look to be fascinating for the men’s game and if it’s going to be a straight shootout between Alcaraz and Sinner to complete tennis, the Olympics might just give the Italian the edge.

How close Alcaraz and Sinner are to completing tennis

Remarkably, the two players have each won nine of the 15 events considered as bigger tournaments on the circuit, with just six left to claim.

Given that Alcaraz is only 22 and Sinner is 24, the future of tennis looks to be firmly in safe hands, with the rest of the field struggling to put a halt to their dominance on the tour.

Alcaraz might well win more Grand Slam titles than Sinner, with the Spaniard currently on six compared to the Italian, who has four following his Wimbledon victory earlier this year.

It’s going to be really interesting to see if these two can stay fit for a prolonged period and continue dominating the sport in the years to come.

The challenge already looks like one to complete the haul of big tournaments first, and with just six titles to claim, the race for invincibility is now on.
