Jannik Sinner had a surprising reason after beating Carlos Alcaraz to defend his ATP Finals title.

Sinner beat Alcaraz in straight sets to win the ATP Finals title in Turin, with the Italian crowd firmly behind their home player.

While Sinner winning titles is not a rare thing to see, his reaction after winning the year-end tournament was particularly notable.

After Alcaraz sprayed his backhand wide, Sinner fell to the floor in an unusual celebration for him, and there are three key reasons why this victory will mean so much to him.

Jannik Sinner celebrated differently to any of his Grand Slam wins this year at the ATP Finals

Sinner has won the Australian Open and Wimbledon this year, but he did not celebrate anywhere near like this after winning two major tournaments.

It is also not the first time that he has won the year-end tournament in Turin, with Sinner beating Taylor Fritz to win the ATP Finals last year.

However, even then Sinner did not react in anywhere near such a dramatic fashion, and this appears to be the biggest celebration he has made since winning his first Grand Slam title at the 2024 Australian Open.

Alcaraz beat Sinner in the US Open final back in September, and the Italian was very critical of himself after losing that match.

As a result, Sinner made a conscious effort to make key changes to his game, and he is likely to now feel very rewarded that these have paid off.

Sinner has been particularly dominant on indoor hard courts during his rise up the ATP rankings, but he was clearly using different tactics to previous matches against Alcaraz, with the drop shot particularly effective.

Although Sinner and Alcaraz have a good relationship, beating your biggest rival in front of your home crowd is only going to feel that much better.

With it being the last tournament of Sinner’s season, it will also give him a positive feeling heading into 2026 as he looks to reclaim his world number one ranking.

All of these factors will have played into this victory meaning so much more to Sinner, and it all came out in his celebration at the end of the match.

How many Grand Slam titles will Jannik Sinner win in 2026?

Jannik Sinner should now have a clear goal for the 2026 season

After winning his last 15 matches of this year, Sinner should have a clear goal when he returns to the court to start preparing for the 2026 season.

This will start at the Australian Open, where Sinner will look to win his third consecutive title in Melbourne.

Alcaraz will also be bidding for the Australian Open, as he looks to become the youngest player in history to complete the Career Grand Slam.

Not only can Sinner stop Alcaraz from completing the Career Grand Slam, but he can also then clear the path for himself to achieve the same.

The only Grand Slam tournament which Sinner has not won before is the French Open, and he can complete the set next year.

Alcaraz saved three championship points against Sinner in a thrilling French Open earlier this year, and the Italian will be looking to get revenge in 2026.
