Victoria Mboko has enjoyed a stunning WTA career so far, but she must be careful to avoid emulating the serving struggles of Coco Gauff.
Gauff is a fantastic role model both on and off the court for players like Mboko, with the 21-year-old already boasting two Grand Slam titles.
She also constantly shows maturity beyond her years when speaking and dealing with the public, but Gauff simply cannot shake her serving woes.
She topped the entire WTA Tour for double faults in both 2024 and 2025, and is already comfortably at the top of the list for 2026, although Mboko isn’t far behind.

Victoria Mboko must avoid emulating Coco Gauff’s double fault issue
Mboko is only 19 years old, but like Gauff has enjoyed a rapid rise to become one of the leading players in women’s tennis.
Canadian star Mboko is now a top 10 player, ranked 10th in the world, six places behind Gauff in fourth.
Worryingly, however, she is ranked third for double faults committed on the WTA Tour in the 2026 season.
Gauff leads the way in the unwanted statistic with 103, followed by the 84 of Kimberly Birrell and the 72 of Mboko.
While she has been in superb form of late, it is not a table she will want to be climbing, particularly given that Gauff seemingly cannot overcome her double fault problem.
Mboko can relax knowing her American rival has still achieved huge success despite the issue, although one can only imagine how many more titles she could have already won had she solved the problem.
Victoria Mboko is definitely one to watch at Indian Wells
With her total of 17 matches played, Mboko has been one of the busiest players on the WTA Tour in 2026, with only Iva Jovic and Elina Svitolina having played more.
It’s testament to both her ability and her bid to constantly improve, with the 19-year-old boasting an impressive 13-4 record from those matches.
Her focus now turns to the hard courts of Indian Wells, where the teenager is undoubtedly one of the players to watch.

Both of her WTA titles – Montreal and Hong Kong – have arrived on hard courts, along with her runner-up finishes at Adelaide and Qatar this year.
Moreover, she should be well-rested despite her busy season so far, with Mboko withdrawing from Dubai after losing that Qatar Open final.
She cited a right elbow injury as the reason for her withdrawal, but the issue doesn’t look like preventing her from taking on Indian Wells.

The top players will definitely want to avoid Mboko early on, but the smartest will be aware that her double fault struggles are there to exploit.
However, at 19, she has so much time to improve that area of her game, although like Gauff it often doesn’t even hold her back.
