The 2025 ATP season is entering its latter stages, with just the Asian and indoor hard-court swings to come before the year-end tour finals.

So far this year, Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner have dominated men’s tennis, splitting the four Grand Slams between them for the second year in a row.

Meanwhile, Novak Djokovic has added another impressive campaign to his already legendary career, reaching the semifinals at each major and clinching his 100th title at the Geneva Open.

Many stars have enjoyed plenty of progress on tour this season; however, a number of players have appeared to have gone backwards, and could do with a strong finish to the year.

1. Daniil Medvedev

Former world number one Daniil Medvedev has endured one of his worst seasons on the ATP Tour in 2025.

The 2021 US Open champion has seen his ranking fall to as low as 18th in the world, tallying a record of 27 wins and 19 losses.

Medvedev recently parted ways with Gilles Cervara, his coach of eight years, and appointed Thomas Johansson ahead of the Hangzhou Open.

After exiting the tournament in the second round, the Russian will seek to rediscover his form of old in the hope of returning to the top ten.

2. Frances Tiafoe

Like Medvedev, Frances Tiafoe has also seen a dip in his ATP ranking this season, falling to 29th in the world after a largely unsuccessful year.

With a record of 26-21, the American has failed to add to his title tally and has struggled at big tournaments.

He crashed out in the second round of both the Australian Open and Wimbledon, and exited the US Open in round three, where he had made the semifinals the year prior.

While Tiafoe has little chance of qualifying for the ATP Finals, a successful finish to the season could make up for what has been an indifferent campaign in 2025.

3. Holger Rune

While Holger Rune has tasted some success this year, the second half of his 2025 run has left a lot to be desired.

Since claiming his first and only title of the season in Barcelona, the Dane has suffered several early exits at tour-level events and has made just two quarterfinals.

At Grand Slams, Rune has only gone as far as the fourth round, having bowed out of Wimbledon and the US Open in round one and two, respectively.

With less than 1000 live points separating him and Alex de Minaur in the ‘Race to Turin’, the world number 11 still has a chance of making the ATP Finals, and will need some much-improved performances at upcoming events to get there.
