The 2025 edition of the US Open has been consigned to the history books, with Carlos Alcaraz and Aryna Sabalenka the toast of the tennis world.
Alcaraz got the edge in the men’s final against Jannik Sinner, whilst Aryna Sabalenka predicted future glory for Amanda Anisimova after the American lost a second successive Grand Slam final.
Alcaraz hailed Sinner for his part in a watchable men’s final, and he’s now claimed six Grand Slam titles across his career, despite still only being 22-years-old.
Elsewhere, Novak Djokovic has now been predicted to retire after the Australian Open, with the 24-time Grand Slam winner now going two years without winning a major title.
For the American stars, the best the men could muster up was Taylor Fritz reaching a quarterfinal and Ben Shelton picking up a shoulder injury that forced him to withdraw against Adrian Mannarino.
Sabalenka has been praised by Billie Jean King after her title victory, and once again, the matches played towards the latter stages of the women’s draw were supremely competitive.

The three best matches from the US Open in 2025
Taylor Townsend succumbs to Barbora Krejcikova – somehow
Townsend had a dispute with Jelena Ostapenko in round two at Flushing Meadows, but after progressing from that match and then against Mirra Andreeva, the 29-year-old was fancied against Krejcikova.
After winning the first set 6-1, Townsend had no fewer than eight match points in set two, with seven of them coming in one of the most exciting tiebreaks you will ever see in your life.
However, the Czech performer called on all of her mental strength to not only save the match points but take out the set 7-6 after winning the tiebreaker 15-13.
It’s perhaps no surprise that Townsend couldn’t recover from losing those match points and eventually went on to lose the deciding set 6-3 to miss out on a first singles quarterfinal at a Grand Slam.
Amanda Anisimova gets Wimbledon retribution on Iga Swiatek
This was a performance that suggested that Anisimova has the most incredible mental strength on the WTA Tour right now.
Losing 6-0, 6-0 in a Wimbledon final could have shattered the mental strength of Anisimova, but when she met Swiatek again in the quarterfinal at Flushing Meadows, she showed little sign of any battle scars.
Swiatek was criticised for her performance against Anisimova, but this was more about the brilliance of the American rather than the poor display from the Wimbledon champion.
Anisimova is now up to a new world ranking high of number four and although she lost to Sabalenka in the final, there is once again a lot to take from the US Open for the player.
Aryna Sabalenka stuns Jessica Pegula
After losing the final to Sabalenka 12 months ago, it felt as though Pegula would get revenge when she came up against the Belarusian in the semifinal.
The American took out the first set 6-4 and looked on course to get another crack at winning a Grand Slam final at the age of 31.
However, Sabalenka’s name was seemingly on the trophy as she roared back with some stunning big-hitting and outstanding winners, taking the match 6-3, 6-4 in a deciding set.
Pegula’s time should come in the future, but she will take no consolation from the fact that her match with Sabalenka was one of the best of the tournament.
