The US Open has drawn to a close with Carlos Alcaraz claiming success over Jannik Sinner.

Alcaraz hailed Sinner as the pair renewed their rivalry at Flushing Meadows, playing each other for the third successive time in a Grand Slam final.

Spanish sensation Alcaraz was praised by Rafael Nadal after his four-set victory, and he continued his dominance over Sinner.

Sinner and Alcaraz prepared for the US Open finals in different ways, and on this occasion, it was the Spaniard who not only stole the title from Sinner but also ended his stranglehold on the world number one spot.

Ryan Harrison praised Alcaraz for his win over Novak Djokovic and it proved another decent tournament for the Serbian, who reached another semifinal at the tournament.

As the world wakes up to Alcaraz being the toast of the tennis world, both he and Djokovic can look at the rankings with some pride this morning.

New ATP rankings released after US Open

Clearly, Alcaraz is the big winner on the Monday after the last Grand Slam of the year, after finally toppling Sinner at the top of the rankings.

Alcaraz’s grip on Sinner is strong, and the Wimbledon final aside, it’s the 22-year-old who largely wins the matches when the two players meet.

Djokovic has also jumped up in the world rankings, and it’s hard to tell whether that will do him any favours or not ahead of the rest of the year.

That said, it will be fascinating to see what Djokovic actually plays in between now and the ATP Finals, and if he chooses to rest, he might have slipped down again by the time he next takes to the court.

Jack Draper was forced to pull out of the US Open after a single match, and naturally, he’s the biggest loser when it comes to the latest rankings release.

How the new ATP rankings look

In large, the list is getting very familiar, with the same 10 players usually featuring on the list but in a different order.

Naturally, Alcaraz will now take some shifting from the number one spot, and it will be interesting to see if this impacts Sinner at all.

Alcaraz has been knocking on the door for the number one spot for a little while, and Sinner’s three-month break from action earlier this year closed the gap.

Now, with a changing of the guard of sorts, it’s Alcaraz who is the man to catch at the summit as the tennis calendar rolls towards the closing stages.
