The Sunshine Double has now concluded for the WTA Tour, with European players outshining their American counterparts.
Mirra Andreeva chased Sunshine Double success after winning at Indian Wells earlier this month, but she fell short at the Miami Open.
The Russian teenager beat Aryna Sabalenka in the Indian Wells final, with the WTA number one then recovering to win the Miami Open final.
Sabalenka beat Jessica Pegula in the latter, with the American having been left to fly the flag for her nation on home soil.
It was a disappointing Sunshine Double for home WTA stars overall given the lack of silverware, but three American players may be particularly disappointed with their performances.

Danielle Collins
Danielle Collins needed to recover from a set down to overcome fellow American Hailey Baptiste in her Indian Wells opener, but the 14th seed didnβt last long after that, losing to 23rd seed Elina Svitolina in the third round.
Collins, who recently slipped to 15th in the WTA rankings, then had the chance to defend her Miami Open title from 2024, but fell to Sabalenka in the round of 16.
Emma Navarro
Also falling down the WTA rankings in recent times, world number 10 Emma Navarro mirrored her compatriot Collins by losing relatively early to lower-ranked opposition at Indian Wells.
The 10th seed fell in the third round to 19th seed Donna Vekic, before an even more disappointing second round defeat was suffered in Miami, although Emma Raducanu praised Navarro after their defeating her.
Coco Gauff
Completing a hat-trick of disappointing American Sunshine Double runs was Coco Gauff, who exited both Indian Wells and the Miami Open in the round of 16.
She did perform better than Collins and Navarro overall, but the world number three would have been planning much lengthier stays given her high standards, and will be hugely frustrated at losing to unseeded duo Belinda Bencic and Magda Linette.
