The rivalry between Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner is one that tennis fans across the globe are starting to become enthralled by.

However, another rivalry is now starting to emerge, and it might prove to be just as exciting.

Alcaraz and Sinner have shared the last eight Grand Slam titles, and total domination looks to be in the sights of both players.

Alcaraz withdrew from the Shanghai Masters with a foot injury, whilst Jannik Sinner lost to Tallon Griekspoor after being forced to retire with severe cramp.

However, two players met for the second successive tournament in Shanghai, and it would seem as though a little rivalry is emerging to excite tennis fans across the globe.

The ATP’s best rivalry is starting to emerge

One really exciting match that has taken place this week in Shanghai came between Daniil Medvedev and Learner Tien.

Medvedev suggested he was ‘scared’ by Tien after the American sensation defeated him last week at the China Open.

However, it was Medvedev who used a spat with the umpire as motivation to book a place in the quarterfinal against Alex de Minaur.

Medvedev has mutual respect for Tien, and their matches this year have all been amazing spectacles.

Tien had got the better of the 2021 US Open winner on the other occasions the two players had met and naturally that had made Medvedev determined to beat him in Shanghai.

Tien started the ball rolling on Medvedev’s downfall

The Australian Open saw the first meeting between the two players when the American stunned the Russian in the second round of the competition.

It was the first time that Tien had ever been part of a Grand Slam, and facing Medvedev in round two led to most people believing it would be nothing more than an experience for the American.

However, he sent Medvedev packing and reached the fourth round, using it as the catalyst to perform well during 2025 and reach number 36 in the world rankings.

Tien and Medvedev will have many more battles in the future and given what the pair have served up against each other this year, it’s fair to say that Alcaraz and Sinner have a bit of competition when it comes to the best rivalry on the ATP Tour.
