Alexander Zverev has shown just how dominant Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz are after his latest defeat.

Zverev’s three most recent losses had come against Sinner, including a straight sets defeat at the Monte Carlo Masters.

However, the world number three knew that he did not have to play either Sinner or Alcaraz in Munich, but Zverev was beaten in the semifinals by Flavio Cobolli.

Zverev was the defending champion in Munich and his latest defeat has exposed a real issue in men’s tennis right now.

Alexander Zverev’s latest defeat has shown just how far Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz are ahead

With Zverev failing to defend his title at the tournament in Munich, it now means that he has not won a single ATP tournament within the past 12 months.

Despite his lack of silverware, Zverev will still remain as the world number three, only behind Alcaraz and Sinner.

Zverev is over 7,000 points behind world number two Alcaraz and is actually closer in terms of points to the lower-ranked player on the ATP Tour.

Alexander Bublik recently claimed that the gap on Sinner and Alcaraz was not closing, and it is hard to argue this based on this recent development.

Zverev is not the only top 10 player who has not won a title in the past 12 months, with Lorenzo Musetti not winning a title since 2022.

Novak Djokovic has won two titles over the past year, but both have been at ATP 250 level.

The two top 10 players with the most titles in the past year are actually Ben Shelton and world number 10 Daniil Medvedev, the latter of whom lost their most recent match 6-0, 6-0.

Jannik Sinner has a target on his back at the Madrid Open

Of the eight top 10 players other than Alcaraz and Sinner, only Shelton has won a Masters 1000 title within the past 12 months.

However, there may now be an opportunity for another top 10 player to join this list with the Madrid Open approaching.

Both Djokovic and Alcaraz have withdrawn from the Madrid Open, while Sinner remains in the tournament.

Sinner has won his last 22 consecutive matches, but he has never surpassed the quarterfinals of the Madrid Open.

With Alcaraz absent from the Madrid Open this year, Sinner is the clear favorite for the title and will have a huge target on his back in the Spanish capital.
