For Jack Draper, the second round of Wimbledon has proved too hot to handle for the third time in succession.
Marin Cilic will add his name to a list including Alex de Minaur and Cameron Norrie as players to have ended the Englishman’s hopes of glory as early as the second round.
A good year has seen Draper win Indian Wells – the tournament often considered the fifth major on the ATP Tour – and reach the fourth round of the French Open.
Cilic rolled back the years to win three sets to one, however, and leave Draper once again wondering what on earth he must do to reach the third round of Wimbledon.
Draper did well to pull a set back after being dominated in the first two, but once again, a worrying trait crept in, and it’s up to the world number four to put things right.

Jack Draper has to fix something in his game after Wimbledon exit
Andy Murray was renowned for being passionate out on the court, but he’d get the crowd on his side and turn everything against the opposition.
Draper has to master that art, and once again at Wimbledon, he let his guard down and showcased to his opponent that he was feeling the pressure.
With match point looming, Draper petulantly threw a ball into the wall at the back of the court, and it merely showed Cilic that the player’s head was pretty scrambled.
This comes just weeks after Draper slammed his racket into the advertising hoarding when he was nearing a defeat to Jiri Lehecka and damaged it beyond repair.
Nobody wants Draper to show a placid persona, as that just isn’t his style, but the challenge is for him to channel that enthusiasm in a different way that doesn’t suggest that he’s lost his composure.
Draper can go again at the US Open
Last year, Draper reached the last four at Flushing Meadows, so he can perform on the hard courts.
His fitness gave out in the end against Jannik Sinner in the semi-final, but Draper is better when it comes to that attribute this year.
At 23, there is time on the side of Draper, and perhaps there’s a sense that he tried a little bit too hard to perform against Cilic on Thursday evening.
However, the petulance is going to ruin his reputation a little bit, and he needs to learn to curb his enthusiasm when things aren’t going his way on the court.
