Iga Swiatek now turns her focus to clay-court tennis, a surface on which she has achieved huge success.
But the Pole has undergone major change ahead of this season’s clay-court swing, with Swiatek splitting with Wim Fissette after the Miami Open.
She has, however, already found a replacement, with Swiatek appointing Francisco Roig, Rafael Nadal’s former coach.
And that should be a factor in potential upcoming success for the WTA star, who has endured a slow start to the season by her very high standards.
Recently dropping to world number four, Swiatek has 12 wins and six losses from her 18 matches, with zero titles won, but French Open success absolutely remains possible.
Where do you think she will be ranked?
Iga Swiatek and Francisco Roig can peak at the French Open
There have been several new player-coach partnerships across women’s and men’s tennis lately, but arguably none more exciting than Swiatek and Roig.
But like every other pairing, it will take time to produce results, which the Pole and the Spaniard fortunately have.
They will be doing all they can to clinch success over the coming weeks, but the new pairing may just peak right in time for the French Open, which starts at the end of May.
WTA 1000 events in Madrid and Rome arrive before then, but the top prize in the clay swing is at Roland Garros in Paris.
Rafael Nadal oversees Iga Swiatek practice
Swiatek has been linking up with Roig at the Rafa Nadal Academy, where the ATP legend himself was also present.
And not only was the 22-time Grand Slam champion there, but he has also spent time overseeing Swiatek practice on the clay.
There will have been fantastic insight provided by the Spanish icon, who arguably knows better than most what it takes to succeed on the surface.
He finished his glittering career with 14 French Open titles, more than any other player in the history of the sport.

Iga Swiatek boasts stunning French Open history
While she will grow in confidence following a timely meeting with Nadal, the WTA ace is another who is well-versed in clay success.
She boasts a stunning history at the French Open, with four of her six Grand Slam titles having arrived on the surface.
| Result | Year | Tournament | Surface | Opponent | Score |
| Win | 2020 | French Open | Clay | Sofia Kenin | 6–4, 6–1 |
| Win | 2022 | French Open | Clay | Coco Gauff | 6–1, 6–3 |
| Win | 2022 | US Open | Hard | Ons Jabeur | 6–2, 7–6(7–5) |
| Win | 2023 | French Open | Clay | Karolina Muchova | 6–2, 5–7, 6–4 |
| Win | 2024 | French Open | Clay | Jasmine Paolini | 6–2, 6–1 |
| Win | 2025 | Wimbledon | Grass | Amanda Anisimova | 6-0, 6-0 |
It is a remarkable record from the Pole, who first lifted the trophy in 2020, before repeating that feat in three consecutive years from 2022 to 2024.
She fell short of continuing her dominance in 2025 after a semifinal loss to Aryna Sabalenka, which should motivate Swiatek when this year’s tournament comes around.
