Iga Swiatek’s coach Wim Fissette was delighted with Iga Swiatek’s near flawless performance against Daria Kasatkina.
The Pole took just 51 minutes to sweep aside the Russian to win her final group match at the WTA Finals.
The 23-year-old needed to win this contest to give herself a chance of keeping her title defence alive and making it to the semi-finals.
She did so emphatically, as Kasatkina, who stepped in to replace the injured Jessica Pegula, claimed just one game in a resounding 6-1, 6-0 defeat.
With little to prepare and adjust to the court conditions, the Eastbourne champion had no answer to the brilliance of Swiatek, who needs Coco Gauff to beat Barbora Krejčíková for her to advance to the semi-finals.
How did Wim Fissette describe Iga Swiatek’s win over Daria Kasatkina in the ATP Finals?
Wim Fissette is still getting to know Iga Swiatek, who he began coaching just three weeks ago.
He has outlined what he wants to work on and how he can help improve the former World number one’s game.
For the first time as her coach, he saw just how destructive and dominant Swiatek can be as she ruthlessly dispatched Kasatkina.
When he was asked what he thought of the performance on Sky Sports, one word stood out from Fissette’s response.
“I think the perfect match from Iga today and I’m really happy to see her play to this level. It’s all pretty new for me,” the Belgian said.
“It’s a tough match with Krejcikova and a difficult match against Gauff, now I have seen the perfect match against Kasatkina so I am learning a lot. The forehand was definitely better today. We worked on it a bit this morning. Happy to see it working so well.”

Iga Swiatek keeps WTA Finals final four qualification alive
Swiatek has played herself into contention for the semi-finals at the WTA Finals by dominating Kasatkina in her final group stage match.
Winning in 51 minutes means Swiatek has recorded the fastest victory at the season-ending championships in at least eight years.
The five-time Grand Slam winner claimed 51 of the contest’s 74 points and broke her opponent’s five out of six times.
Should Swiatek advance to the semi-finals, she will become the youngest player to reach the final four on three successive occasions since Maria Sharapova.
The soon-to-be Tennis Hall of Famer achieved four consecutive WTA Finals semi-finals in a row between 2004 and 2007.
