Alexandra Eala has a potential match with Coco Gauff looming at Indian Wells after the draw has been revealed.

Eala has surged up the WTA rankings over the past year after her breakthrough run at the Miami Open last year.

The Filipina has continued to find more success, and Eala is now a fan favorite at every tournament she goes to, with the same to be expected from Indian Wells.

While there will be doubts about Eala’s chances at Indian Wells this year after the draw was made, she actually has no reason to worry too much.

Alexandra Eala has nothing to lose at Indian Wells this year

Eala is the 31st seed at Indian Wells this year, but it is actually her first ever appearance at the WTA 1000 tournament.

This time last year, Eala was the world number 140 and was playing at an ITF event in Slovakia while the top players were competing at Indian Wells.

Eala only won one match at this ITF tournament, and therefore only has nine points to defend during Indian Wells this year.

All players in the main draw at Indian Wells are guaranteed 10 points regardless of their result, and therefore Eala will be relieved of that pressure after seeing her difficult draw.

Despite being a seeded player, Eala will play either 2024 Australian Open semifinalist Dayana Yastremska or former top 30 player Shuai Zhang in her first round match.

Eala comfortably beat Yastremska in their only previous meeting, but most eyes will be drawn to the potential third round match against Gauff, which comes just two weeks after their one-sided encounter in Dubai.

Alexandra Eala can look forward to potential match with Coco Gauff

Gauff thrashed Eala at the Dubai Tennis Championships, losing just two games in their quarterfinal match.

This could have been quite a scarring encounter for Eala, whose weaknesses were exposed by Gauff in Dubai, but it could also free her up a bit.

Eala has now experienced what it is like to play Gauff, and it seems unlikely that she will win fewer games than she did in Dubai.

There is also the added element of the traditionally slower hard court courts in Indian Wells, which could be a concern as Eala is yet to find her game on clay, and she tends to prefer quicker courts.

Both Eala and Gauff have struggled on serve over the past year, and it may be a match of who can limit their weaknesses the most.

This match is what many will be looking ahead to, but Eala should and will not overlook her second round encounter against either Yastremska or Zhang.
