Alexandra Eala’s stunning rankings rise from outside the WTA Top 1000 to the Top 40

Alexandra Eala has enjoyed one of the most dramatic ranking rises in WTA history, and she doesn’t look like slowing down anytime soon.

Eala is hugely popular among tennis fans, despite the 20-year-old having yet to clinch a title on the WTA Tour.

But getting over that significant hurdle may be only a matter of time for Filipina superstar Eala, who will soon turn her focus to Indian Wells.

Eala is in her career-high rank of 31st heading into the tournament, which represents one of many milestones throughout her stunning rise over the years.

Alexandra Eala’s rankings rise from outside the WTA Top 1000 to 31st

Back in 2020, Eala’s highest rank was 1,180, which was followed by a mammoth jump to world number 505 in 2021.

In 2022 and 2023 respectively, the climb continued to ranks 214 and 189 respectively, with a highest rank of 143 earned in 2024.

By 2025, Eala had made it to 50th on the WTA Tour, with the rising star recently soaring to 31st thanks to a strong start to the season.

In a very busy start to 2026, she has played in six tournaments so far, from which she boasts a 10-6 win-loss record.

From her entire WTA career, the 20-year-old has 204 wins and 124 losses, with $1,655,677 earned in prize money.

It’s definitely too early to tell at which rank she can peak, but right now nothing is off the table, particularly if Eala can improve her service game.

Eala is making her debut at Indian Wells this year, which could provide the youngster with plenty of nerves.

That would be understandable, but at the same time she will undoubtedly have plenty of fans to cheer her on, as she does at every tournament she plays in.

That support should be a huge incentive, as will be the prize money available at the WTA 1000 tournament in California.

Eala is by no means the favorite to win the title, but she will have no fear at Indian Wells, which arrives just before the Miami Open in the 2026 schedule.

It was at that WTA 1000 event that Eala truly introduced herself to tennis, when she beat three former Grand Slam champions en route to a semifinal finish.

Eala overcame formidable foes Jelena Ostapenko, Madison Keys and Iga Swiatek before eventually falling to Jessica Pegula.
