All eyes are on the French Open semifinals as 22-year-old French wildcard Lois Boisson prepares to face tennis sensation Coco Gauff.

Boisson ranked World No. 361 at the tournament’s start, has defied all expectations, becoming the first female wildcard in the Open Era to reach this stage at Roland Garros.

Her incredible journey has captivated fans, especially after her graceful handling of the Harriet Dart incident.

Boisson began her professional career at 16, and her biggest win to date was over World No. 6 Mirra Andreeva.

The Tennis Gazette has all the key details about Boisson as she prepares to face Gauff in what could be the biggest accomplishment of her career.

When is Lois Boisson’s next match?

Lois Boisson’s next match is a highly anticipated semifinal clash against World No. 2, reigning Grand Slam champion (2023 US Open) Coco Gauff at the French Open, scheduled for Thursday, June 5, 2025, at 3:10 PM BST.

The reason this matchup is so captivating is Boisson’s special journey in the tournament. She entered the French Open as a wildcard entry, meaning she wasn’t ranked high enough to qualify for the main draw and received a special invitation.

At the start of the tournament, her official WTA ranking was World No. 361. To reach the semifinals of a Grand Slam event from such a position, especially as a wildcard, is incredibly rare and has made her the underdog story of this year’s competition.

Lois Boisson vs Harriet Dart controversy

The incident occurred during their first-round match at the Rouen Open in April 2025. Dart was heard complaining to the umpire, asking them to tell Boisson to wear deodorant because she “smells really bad.” These comments were picked up by courtside microphones and quickly went viral on social media, leading to widespread criticism of Dart’s conduct.

Boisson, who was reportedly oblivious to the remarks during the match, later responded with humour by posting an edited picture of herself with a photoshopped Dove deodorant stick, tagging the company and joking that she “apparently need a collab.”

Dart subsequently issued an apology on her Instagram story, stating that her comments were a “heat-of-the-moment” remark she truly regretted and took full responsibility for.

How old is Lois Boisson and where did she grow up?

Lois Boisson was born on May 16, 2003, making her 22 years old. She was born in Dijon, France. She began her journey in professional tennis by competing on the ITF junior tour in 2019, at the age of 16. Her talent quickly became apparent as she went on to win her first ITF title in her home city of Dijon.

What is Lois Boisson’s biggest win of her career so far?

Lois Boisson’s biggest win in her career so far is undoubtedly her victory over World No. 6 Mirra Andreeva in the quarterfinals of the 2025 French Open. This win propelled her into her first Grand Slam semifinal and marked her second top-10 victory of the tournament, having previously defeated World No. 3 Jessica Pegula in the fourth round.

Her win over Andreeva was particularly significant as it was a straight-sets upset (7-6(6), 6-3) against a highly-touted opponent. Yet a win against Coco Gauff would top that. Defeating a player of Gauff’s calibre, especially in the semifinals of a Grand Slam, would be an even more monumental achievement for Boisson.

Given that Gauff is a reigning Grand Slam champion and a former French Open finalist, a win over her would represent the highest-ranked opponent Boisson has ever defeated and would secure her a spot in a Grand Slam final, making it the most significant win of her career to date.

Is Lois Boisson competing at any other tournaments this year?

Beyond the French Open, information about her specific tournament schedule for the rest of 2025 does not seem to be clear.

However, given her performance as a wildcard and her projected significant rise in the WTA rankings, it’s highly likely she will gain direct entry or receive wildcards into more WTA tour-level events, including potentially other Grand Slams later in the year.

Before this French Open, she had only played two tour-level matches: a first-round win over Harriet Dart and a second-round defeat to Moyuka Uchijima at the Rouen Open in April 2025. Her performance at Roland Garros will undoubtedly open many more doors for her tournament schedule.
