Two of Rafael Nadal’s biggest rivals plan to be at his Davis Cup Finals farwell.

In October the Spaniard announced that he would retire from professional tennis in front of his home fans in Malaga.

This will bring what is expected to be an emotional end to an illustrious career which includes 22 Grand Slam title wins.

The Davis Cup finals quickly became the hottest ticket in town following the announcement, as everyone wants to witness one of the greatest of all time bid farewell.

Rafael Nadal has chosen to end his career on home soil around his Spanish teammates, such as his Paris Olympics doubles partner Carlos Alcaraz.

The crowd will no doubt want to give the 38-year-old a rousing send off, and some of his colleagues want to be part of it.

Novak Djokovic says he will be at the Davis Cup finals to witness Nadal retire, while tournament director and Nadal’s fellow Spaniard Feliciano Lopez says Andy Murray also wants to be present.

“It’s confidential of course, but we’re planning to do something very special for him, we have to celebrate his career and his legacy,” Lopez told reporters.

“There’s a lot of things that we’re planning but for now I cannot share any more details with you, but we’re planning something very special.

“We are going to try and live up to his legacy and his enormous career and I hope we’re going to do something very special for him.”

Rafael Nadal aims to finish his career with a sixth Davis Cup title

Nadal has enjoyed plenty of success representing throughout his career.

The former World number one claimed two Olympic gold medals and has led Spain to Davis Cup glory on five previous occasions.

He has won 29 of his 30 singles matches in Davis Cup action and Nadal aims to be at his best to help Spain triumph one final time before hanging up his racket.

“Hello everyone. I’m here to let you know that I am retiring from professional tennis,” the Spaniard said in his retirement video. “The reality is that it has been some difficult years, these last two especially.

“I don’t think I have been able to play without limitations. It is obviously a difficult decision, one that has taken me some time to make.

“But, in this life, everything has a beginning and an end. And I think it’s the appropriate time to put an end to a career that has been long and much more successful than I could have ever imagined.”
