The 2024 Next Gen ATP Finals are set to begin in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on December 18.

The Next Gen ATP Finals have taken place at the end of every season since 2017, showcasing the top eight 21-and-under singles players on the ATP Tour.

A whole host of household names first made their mark at the event, with the likes of Daniil Medvedev, Taylor Fritz, Andrey Rublev, Frances Tiafoe, and Jack Draper all competing in years gone by.

Those names didn’t win the tournament, however, with many of the event champions going on to bigger and better things.

Every former Next Gen ATP Finals champion and where they are now

Since 2017, there have been six different winners of the Next Gen Finals, all of which have had varying degrees of success since.

Chung Hyeon – 2017

The inaugural champion of the event in Milan was South Korea’s Chung Hyeon, who took down Andrey Rublev in the final.

Chung followed up his success by reaching the semi-finals of the 2018 Australian Open, where he beat both Alexander Zverev and Novak Djokovic before losing to Roger Federer.

Since then the South Korean has had a torrid time with injury, playing just a handful of matches in the past five years.

He did however play several events in Asia at the end of 2024, as he looks to bounce back from his injury setbacks and showcase his once very evident potential.

Stefanos Tsitsipas – 2018

Stefanos Tsitsipas beat Alex de Minaur in the 2018 final, before quickly going on to become a big threat on the ATP Tour.

Tsitsipas remains the only player to win the Next Gen ATP Finals, and ATP Finals in back-to-back years, with his title in London one year later.

The Greek has reached two Grand Slam finals, and been a mainstay in the top ten for the best part of half a decade, and despite a brief drop in form this season, will likely be a big threat again in 2025.

Jannik Sinner – 2019

Jannik Sinner won the 2019 edition of the tournament, the first member of this list to achieve Major success later in their careers.

After struggling with fitness for a few years on his rise through the ATP rankings, things finally clicked for Sinner in 2024.

The Italian won two Grand Slam titles, with Sinner’s win at the Australian Open, followed by success at the US Open later in the year.

An ATP Finals title, two Davis Cups, and multiple Masters 1000 trophies are just a few more of the 23-year-old’s accomplishments, as he sits comfortably as one of the most successful Next Gen champions.

Carlos Alcaraz – 2021

Sinner may be one of the most successful Next Gen champions, but Carlos Alcaraz still takes top spot for now.

The Spaniard dispatched Sebastian Korda in the 2021 final, before going on to win four Major titles before the age of 22.

Alcaraz won Wimbledon for a second time earlier this year, after winning his first French Open title just a few months prior.

A stint as world number one and countless Masters 1000 triumphs, has shown plenty of other young stars what to aim for.

Brandon Nakashima – 2022

Brandon Nakashima’s title in 2022, was the first of two slightly more underwhelming champions, when you look at their careers since.

Nakashima is currently ranked 38th in the world, impressive, but slightly less so than his Grand Slam winning predecessors.

The American hasn’t reached a tour-level final since winning the Next Gen Finals and will be looking to push forward in a big way in 2025.

Hamad Medjedovic – 2023

The most recent champion and the first in the Middle-East, was Hamad Medjedovic, who won one of the more intense finals we’ve ever seen at the event.

Since then, Medjedovic has failed to ride the wave of momentum, as he is yet to break through into the world’s top 100.

The Serb did reach his first tour-level final recently, however, as Medjedovic lost to Denis Shapovalov at his home Belgrade Open.

He’ll be hoping for more results like that in the new year, as he looks to rise the rankings as soon as possible.

Who will be competing in the 2024 Next Gen ATP Finals?

It’s clear to see that winning the Next Gen Finals can often put you on a straight path to success, but who will be taking part in this year’s event?

Qualified participants for the 2024 Next Gen ATP Finals

Arthur Fils is the heavy favorite for the tournament, having reached the final last year, losing out to Medjedovic.

Fils won a number of ATP 500 titles this year, as he established himself as one of the most dangerous players on the ATP Tour.

Alex Michelsen, Jakub Mensik, and Juncheng Shang, all reside in the world’s top 50 and it would be unwise to count them out of a title in Jeddah.

There are a few names yet to be announced, as two of Joao Fonseca, Nishesh Basavareddy, and Coleman Wong will qualify.

It’s tough to know for certain who will take home the title in Saudi Arabia, but whoever it may be, could well find themselves on the path to bigger things, if history is anything to go by.

The Next Gen ATP Finals in Saudi Arabia will commence on December 18.
