Jannik Sinner is the first Italian in history to win a Wimbledon singles title, following his four-set victory over Carlos Alcaraz.
Sinner beat Alcaraz 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 to hold the famous trophy aloft on Centre Court for the very first time, denying the Spaniard a three-peat at the championships.
The Italian, now a four-time Grand Slam champion, dropped the first set in the match, as his opponent went one step closer to a third consecutive Wimbledon title.
A defiant Sinner fought his way back, however, and in the fourth set, former American tennis player Sam Querrey noticed something about the world number one that he hadn’t seen from him before.

Giving his analysis on ESPN, Querrey said: “The difference for me was in the fourth set when he broke serve, the confidence seemed like it was oozing out of him.
“Even if he had lost serve in that fourth set, I still felt like he was going to win the match. Shoulders were back, he was going after shots.
“He was walking around the court with a certain confidence he did not have at Roland Garros.”
Former world number four James Blake replied: “The difference as well was on the court how hard he was hitting the ball.
“Sometimes you think when you get a little nervous you might pull back a little, he started hitting it harder.
“His forehand averaged 88mph on the last four games, the rest of the match averaged 82mph. Six miles per hour difference, he was going after these and he wanted to go out on his own terms.
“If he was the one that missed it, that’s okay. And I think that’s the way to play and what got him over the finish line today.”
Jannik Sinner goes one step closer to a career Grand Slam
After winning Wimbledon, Sinner just needs to secure a French Open title to win the ‘career Grand Slam’.
He has won two Australian Open titles, a US Open crown, and now a championship in SW19.

The 23-year-old was agonisingly close to winning Roland Garros earlier in the year, having had three championship points against Alcaraz, but couldn’t get over the line.
Sinner will look to make it two at Flushing Meadows later this summer, as he returns to the US Open to defend his title.
