Carlos Alcaraz has already won more Grand Slam titles than Roger Federer had at the same age.

Federer won his first Grand Slam at 21, the age that Alcaraz is now having already lifted four major trophies.

However, there have been some questions over Alcaraz in recent months, with the Spaniard appearing to lose focus in some of his matches.

Upon the release of his new Netflix docuseries, Alcaraz has now revealed what Federer told him when they spoke at the Laver Cup last year.

What Roger Federer privately told Carlos Alcaraz at the Laver Cup

Alcaraz made history at the Laver Cup on his debut in 2024, that included winning the decisive rubber for Team Europe.

That was not the only thing that the four-time major winner appeared to gain from his time in Berlin, with Alcaraz now detailing what Federer told him he needed to do in a private exchange.

“I asked him what he did to stay motivated for so many years. Year after year after year,” Alcaraz said in his Netflix series, My Way.

“He said, ‘You’ve got to enjoy the journey. You need to have fun at the tournaments wherever you go. Friends, things to do. Go to the movies. Go to… always have something fun to do wherever you go.”

During the last six years of Federer’s career he only played at Roland Garros twice, and the Swiss followed Alcaraz by suggesting that these breaks were helpful to him.

“The compatible life is a tricky one, right? Because, you want to be everywhere, but you can’t be,” stated Federer.

“It’s definitely very challenging trying to put the puzzle all together, but important is sometimes to take a break, get away from it all so when you do come back you are actually excited to be in the limelight again.”

Will Carlos Alcaraz play the Madrid Open this year?

Alcaraz won the Monte Carlo Masters and reached the final of the Barcelona Open to make an impressive start to his clay court season.

However, it appears that a busy couple of weeks on the clay have taken its toll on Alcaraz, who has suffered an injury to his upper leg and is currently in doubt for the Madrid Open.

When speaking to El Hormiguero, Alcaraz confirmed those doubts and admitted that he was waiting for his test results.

“I had some tests done on Monday, and I am waiting for the results,” said Alcaraz. “At the beginning of the week, I thought I would be feeling better.

“My participation in Madrid is in doubt; I am a bit physically annoyed. But you have to listen to your body and see how the tests go. For me, Madrid is one of the places where I enjoy playing the most.”

Alcaraz is scheduled to hold a press conference at the Madrid Open at 12:30pm local time on Thursday April 24.

This should reveal whether he will officially be withdrawing from his home Masters 1000 tournament.
