Carlos Alcaraz has his sights set on further Madrid Open glory, but he is currently distracted by an injury issue.

Alcaraz needed an MRI on his upper leg after the Barcelona Open final, which he lost to Denmark ace Holger Rune.

The Spanish star twice received medical treatment on the issue during Sunday’s final, where Alcaraz was denied a third ATP title of 2025.

Alcaraz admitted a lack of patience in his clash with Rune, which he lost 7-6(8-6), 6-2, having only just won the Monte Carlo Masters.

The men’s calendar now rapidly moves on to the Madrid Open this week, another ATP Masters 1000 tournament, and one that Alcaraz has won twice in his career.

And as quoted by Punto de Break, Alcaraz has now provided a fitness update ahead of his first match on Friday.

“Physically, I feel fine,” said Alcaraz. “I’ve had tests, and we’ll see what the results say. I’m used to playing with discomfort; hopefully, I can enjoy Madrid.”

Alcaraz has, of course, already enjoyed a stunning career aged just 21, which includes four Grand Slam titles.

He has won Wimbledon twice, with his US Open and French Open titles meaning he has secured success on grass, hard and clay courts.

Australian Open glory has, however, been much harder to come by, with Alcaraz only ever making it to the quarter-finals.

Melbourne success is, therefore, unsurprisingly among his aims for the near future, with the world number three saying: “There are always new challenges.

“We want to continue making our mark in tennis history little by little. Ambition is what drives us every day to try to improve.

“I have one Grand Slam left, Australia, I hope I can achieve it one day. Every tournament is important to me, and that’s what motivates me.”
