Jasmine Paolini has made career history at the French Open after beating Ajla Tomljanovic.

Paolini is one of the French Open favourites this year, and is looking to go one step further than her runner-up finish in 2024.

However, it has not been an easy start for Paolini, who survived a scare in her first round match against Yue Yuan.

The world number four has now come through a much more straightforward match against Tomljanovic.

What Jasmine Paolini has done for the first time in her career at the French Open

Paolini beat three-time Grand Slam quarter-finalist Tomljanovic, 6-3 6-3, in 83 minutes on Court Philippe-Chatrier.

This has built on the 29-year-old’s momentum, with Paolini winning the Italian Open for the first time in her career before heading to Paris.

Paolini reached two Grand Slam finals last year, but has now achieved something that she was unable to in 2024.

After beating Tomljanovic, Paolini has won eight consecutive matches for the first time in her professional career.

Jasmine Paolini makes Italian tennis history at the French Open

Not only has Paolini made history for herself following her victory over Tomljanovic, but she has also made history for her country.

After reaching the third round of a Grand Slam for the sixth time, Paolini has become the second Italian woman to achieve this feat alongside former US Open finalist Roberta Vinci.

Despite Paolini making history for her nation, she has definitely not been an overnight success.

It actually took 17 main draw appearances for Paolini to reach the third round of a Grand Slam for the first time.

She did this at the 2024 Australian Open and has reached at least the third round of every major tournament since then.

Paolini will now await the winner of the match between Anastasia Potapova and Yulia Starodubtseva.
