Jasmine Paolini has clinched a second title at the Italian Open this year, emerging victorious in the women’s doubles event.

Paolini beat Gauff in the Rome singles final to seal her second WTA 1000 title, and has now added another doubles trophy to her cabinet alongside partner Sara Errani.

The two defeated Elise Mertens and Veronika Kudermetova in a straight-sets victory in front of a joyous home crowd on Campo Centrale.

After Paolini joined Serena Williams in the record books, becoming the second player to win the women’s Italian Open singles tournament after turning 29, she now has her name etched among more legends of the game with her doubles triumph.

Jasmine Paolini becomes the sixth player to win both the singles and doubles events in Rome

Becoming the first person to complete the feat in 35 years, Paolini is now one of six players in the Open Era to win both the singles and doubles tournaments at the Italian Open, according to OptaAce.

The Italian is the first to win both events since nine-time Grand Slam champion Monica Seles in 1990.

Among the players to hold both trophies aloft in the same week are: Billie Jean King (1970), Virginia Wade (1971), Chris Evert (1974, 1975) and Raffaella Reggi (1985).

Paolini and her partner Errani, who won gold together at the Paris Olympics last summer, successfully defended their title in the Eternal City, having won the tournament in 2024.

Paolini also became the second player since the format’s introduction in 2009 to win both the singles and doubles tournaments at a WTA 1000 event, following Vera Zvonareva (Indian Wells 2009).

The 29-year-old and her partner are the first pair to win back-to-back titles in Rome since Gigi Fernandez and Natasha Zvereva (1994, 1995).

Only Virginia Wade has won more women’s doubles titles at the Italian Open than Paolini’s partner Errani, who picked up the third of her career on Sunday.

The Italian duo will now look to take their momentum into Roland Garros, where they came up short in the doubles final last year.
