Jannik Sinner has improved exponentially over the past year and his serve is a big reason for his success.
Since the 2023 ATP Finals, the Italian has claimed seven titles and is going for an eighth at the 2024 edition of the season-ending championships.
Over the past year Sinner has claimed his first two Grand Slam titles and finished the season as the year-end number one.
Players and fans have marvelled at the consistency and firepower Jannik Sinner brings to the court, and he is showing no signs of slowing down.
How did Jannik Sinner improve his serve?
Sinner has improved many aspects of his game, but perhaps none more than his serve.
He dropped just two points on serve in the first set of his ATP Finals victory over Daniil Medvedev and averages 75% of first serve points won in 2024, and saves 67% of break points.
Several players and other members of the tennis world have marvelled at how Sinner has transformed his serve into a consistent weapon.
After Sinner defeated Medvedev in Turin, former player turned commentator Laura Robson explained the changes to Sinner made to improve his serve during the season.

“The little adjustments he has made, nothing too crazy or serious, but just a little bit of a shorter step with the way in, his footwork, he has turned slightly,” Robson said.
“It’s very minor things but when you add them all together it’s made a massive difference to his serve percentage and also his pace on the first serve. It’s been so impressive to make that during the season.
“So few people are comfortable enough and have enough confidence in their game to make a change on such a big shot half way through the year when you have already won the Aussie Open and are trying to be the number one in the world but that’s why he is, because he is always looking for small percentage to be better and make as many improvements as possible.”
What did Jannik Sinner say about his serve at the ATP Finals?
Sinner credited his serve for his performance against Medvedev in his final round robin match in Turin.
He decided his home fans with his excellent serving, and though his serve was broken for the first time in the match, Sinner did not falter at any other stage of the match.
In fact, the Italian thought he served better against Medvedev than in his previous two wins over Taylor Fritz and Alex de Minaur.
“I felt like I was serving better than the previous two matches,” the two-time Grand Slam champion said.
“He was changing the return position a little bit so I changed up with the serve and volley. It didn’t work out that well, but these are things I can improve and I want to improve.”
