Jannik Sinner beat Taylor Fritz 6-4, 6-4, to take home his first ATP Finals title in Turin.

Sinner enjoyed another stellar year on the ATP Tour in 2024, as he won two Grand Slam titles, reaching number one in the world in the process.

Sinner won the Australian Open to open the season, before winning the US Open in September, to doubles his Major tally.

The Italian also enjoyed success at the Masters 1000 level this year, taking home three titles, including Sinner’s win at the Shanghai Masters.

The 23-year-old finished his breakthrough season with another huge result, as Sinner beat Fritz to win the ATP Finals for the first time in his career.

For many the season would be over after a tour finals victory, but Sinner still has one more job to do.

Fresh off of his ATP Finals success, many would expect Sinner to take some time off to enjoy his success, but that isn’t the case for the 23-year-old.

According to OA sport, the Italian arrived in Malaga for the Davis Cup on Tuesday and began training shortly after.

The video shows Sinner training with Italian number two, Lorenzo Musetti, ahead of Italy’s quarter-final matchup against Argentina.

Matteo Berrettini, Andrea Vavassori, and Simone Bolelli complete Italy’s Davis Cup line-up, as they look to defend the title they won in 2023.

Questions have been asked as to who will play for Italy in the singles, considering Sinner’s busy week in Turin.

He seems to be back up to speed, however, and will likely play either Sebastian Baez or Francisco Cerundolo in the singles tie.

Can Jannik Sinner and Italy defend their Davis Cup title?

Italy won their first Davis Cup title in 47 years when they took home the trophy in 2023, comfortably beating Australia in the final.

Starman Sinner won all five of his matches in the knockout stages, including a vital three-set win over Novak Djokovic that kept his side in the competition.

He’ll no doubt be looking to repeat the form he showed last year this time round, but history shows that defending the Davis Cup title is no mean feat.

Just twice have a nation defended the Davis Cup since the turn of the century, with no-one having done so in well over a decade.

It was a Tomas Berdych-led Czech side that last won two in a row, something that Sinner will be looking to replicate in 2024.

Italy do look to be favorites for the tournament however, especially since Spain were knocked out of the Davis Cup at the quarter-final stage.

It’s hard to pick who the toughest opponents left in the competition are, but a USA team with Fritz, Tommy Paul, Ben Shelton, and doubles specialists Rajeev Ram and Austin Krajicek would cause anyone some serious problems.

Sinner and Italy will begin their Davis Cup campaign against Argentina on Thursday.
