Carlos Alcaraz is back in action at the Italian Open, following time out due to his adductor injury.

Alcaraz suffered the injury in Barcelona, which he received treatment for during his final against Holger Rune, where the Dane emerged victorious.

After withdrawing from the Madrid Open, the Spaniard is now healthy enough to compete at the Italian Open in Rome, which he missed last year due to an arm injury.

Alcaraz is looking for his third title of the season, having already added to his collection in Rotterdam and Monte-Carlo.

Before his first-round matchup against Dusan Lajovic, the three-time grand slam champion took to the practice courts with world number eight Alex de Minaur.

Carlos Alcaraz looked healthy in practice set victory over Alex de Minaur

As reported by Spanish outlet Marca, Alcaraz and de Minaur trained for an hour on Court 6 of the Foro Italico tennis complex, where they played a set after half an hour of rallying.

The Spaniard won 6-2, after de Minaur equalised a 2-0 deficit at the start, before losing four consecutive games.

It was clear to see that Alcaraz has regained mobility and is looking to be back to his best, despite wearing a black protection sleeve on his right leg.

At the end of the practice, Alcaraz greeted Brazilian rising star Joao Fonseca on the way to the locker room.

The world number three also played a practice set against Alexander Zverev, which he lost, but is clearly wanting to test himself against the very best, and can’t have too many concerns about the injury.

Carlos Alcaraz’s 2025 season so far

Alcaraz has enjoyed a successful season on the ATP Tour this year, despite the injury setback in Barcelona.

After exiting the Australian Open in the quarter-final at the hands of Novak Djokovic, the 22-year-old immediately bounced back in Rotterdam, where he won the title after defeating de Minaur in the final.

Alcaraz lost in the Doha quarter-final to Jiri Lehecka, but reached the final four in the first Masters 1000 tournament of the year at Indian Wells, where he ultimately fell to a red-hot Jack Draper.

Following a first-round exit in Miami, Alcaraz clinched the biggest title of his season so far, emerging victorious in Monte Carlo, picking up his first Masters 1000 title in 13 months.

Having suffered a loss in the Barcelona final while carrying an injury, Alcaraz will now look to win his 19th career title in the Italian capital.
